Hi, I was wondering if shooting 24p at SD with the HVX200 is parallel to shooting 24p with the DVX100. I'm thinking of buying the HVX200, but don't have proper editing deck yet, so I was thinking I should shoot with it 24p SD footage in the meantime.
Is it as good / better than the DVX100's 24p? How is it different?
Thanks guys!

They are similar, but not identical. The HVX is not as light sensitive. I don't know the exact specs but you lose a stop or so. You should search here and you'll find more specific details.

I would give the HVX the edge, because of the full-rez 16x9 image without the hassle of the anamorphic lens adapter.
When you say SD, does that mean you plan on shooting to tape? You can shoot DVCPRO and DVCPRO 50 to P2, which would be high quality than DV25.

yeah, I meant tape. Would I even be able to record SD to a P2 card? If so, would it play on a 5.0 FCP? I don't have the 6.0 version, so I can't edit P2 material as to now...

Yes, you can record regular DV to P2 cards, but it would still be wrapped inside MXF files and you would follow the normal P2 IT workflow. Also be aware that you cannot dub SD (either DV or DVCPro50) to MiniDV tape in the camera, but you can dub HD to MiniDV tape.

You don't need FCP 6.0 to import P2 footage. I have 5.0.4, and I can import P2 stuff, though my computer isn't really fast enough to edit HD material.

I believe 5.0 supports standard-def P2 MXF files. 5.0.4 added high-def support too.
