AD conversion

I am trying to use the HVX to convert analogue signals from a vcr to digital using the HVX. I have read the manual and Barry's book, and followed the instructions, but I cannot seem to get it working. I am using a mac, and final cut pro. I plugged in the 3 cables from the vcr (video x1 and audio x2), and the firewire cable. I set the camera to tape. In vcr mode, I set the 1394 out to on. I press play on the vcr, but there is no signal seen on the camera or in fonal cut (I go to log and capture). The HVX does not show up as a drive in the finder either, and I cannot figure out how to connect the camera to the computer in tape mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
