This is just a raw shot from our forthcomming short with the provisional title: "Intergalactique cemetery" A little disappointment for the StarWars fans though.. we are deviating from the genre quite severly so I hope we don't get assassinated by the hard core fan/atiques.. 8)

The shot is from the opening part where just a few survivors of the cataclismic supernovea outburst manage to get out from the hell and start to look for another world.....little spoiler here.....unsuccessfully in the end ;D

Working Title: Intergalactic Lens Flares

I agree, we need to see some footage. Something tells me this is a photoshop still.

The rendering time for these CGI shots is enormous so the whole family and lot of friends have been assigned to dedicate at least a couple of hours daily of their cpu time to make it possible for a short with some CGI scenes like shown.

ExFilms> Yes it was kind of tricky to position the tripod, dolly, and crane with DVX100ae camera properly in the near vicinity of M42 Nebula.. ;D

This is a multileyered composit consisting of high quality renders with matching light & shadows properties for each frame and real hubble imaginary in RGB spectrum for the background which is altered by camera zooming out and a bit of CGI morphing. The 'chasing' DOF gives it a completly new dimension if you look at the shot for 20-30s you will feel sick of being it the middle of 'tunnel' to the center of the explosion..

P.K.G.> you are right this is a PS doctored lens flare layer I thought it might serve better in the explosion in somewhat more subtle way than ordinary sparks and stuff.. Although it might change in the future for a more suitable effect.

The footage is still being computed (using ordinary PCs and free render engine POV-ray and 3ds models -> due credit will be mentioned in titles). This is a non-commercial enterprise.. but IMAX version might be comming shortly (in 5years according to our rendering hardware capabilities :P) and on the condition that Mr. Lucas gives us an approval..aka unlikely :-X

Btw. I think that these high quality composite will be a poor man's choice of dooing jaw dropping SFX in comming years as the pc hw and grid computing evolves a bit further. Just imagine you could distribute it on the internet as a grid computing job which could be completed in a couple of days~weeks in case of bigger community..

Speaking of grids, this one is for non-profit research projects but anyone interested can get an idea of what its all about.

All of my PCs are working on their cancer research project as we speak. My personal contribution is now nearly 9 years of CPU time. Awsome power!! :o

I'm still not 100% convinced this is for real. Please post a short 3d animation ASAP.
