Which fisheye are you looking for? If it is one of the Century Optics models, they have a dealer locator (http://www.schneideroptics.com/dealers/dealers.htm) on their website.

I use the 16x9inc. .75x
Excellent quality and sharp all the way to the edges.

.75.. that cant really be classed as a fish can it? .3 and wider should be the norm..

For the HVX it's actually either the .45 super fish by 16x9 or the .55 by century. I have the century and fine it more usueful and not as "fishy" and specialized. The century is more of an extreme wide and I use it all the time.

I use the 16x9 Inc Super Fisheye. It's OK... some issues around the edges, but not horrible.

Thanks.
Additionally, I used the the .6 Century for MANY of the shots in the performing arts video.

The 0.55 Century seems like the way to go, not too wide so useable for certain professional applications. But still wide enough for extreme sports.
Has anyone tried the Cavision 0.4x? cheaper yes, but i wonder what the fish effect is like.
As nice as the 16x9 0.45x looks i dont like the fact you have to step down to a 72mm thread to attach it. This has got to be the reason that with certain hvxs (well most) you see slight vignetting on the left hand side.
But then again, guess you cant have everything, even centurys extreme fish vignettes...

Schneider and Century Optics are the same company/product line.

YEP. I have the .55 and it's a sweet piece. I find that it's a better choice than the .6 except if you have to zoom. That .6 is HEAVY...

That .6 is HEAVY...The nice thing about the Schneider/Century optics is that they attach to the bayonet mount of the HVX rather than being threaded on -- that's a much more robust and durable method, and is much quicker too.

I have the Cavision 0.4x fish and I have been really happy with it so far.
I have bunch of sample clips that I have been meaning to post just need to get some time to get around to it.
You can see some sample of it in this promo video I created for a young skater.
All the fisheye shots where done with the Cavision.

if you want to see a higher res version the video is on my Vimeo page too

You can get the it direct from Cavision.

yes, this is the lens and it does come with a very nice adapter ring. and it has no vignetting.

i used the century .55 last season, i didn't really like it, and i kinda wanted wider, i got the 16x9 .45 and is pretty good, the converter ring is a non issue, screw mount works fine for me, although there is some decent chromatic aberation going on in the corners. great lens for what i do, snowboard filming.
the century just didn't fit my needs. i wish there was an fisheye that copied the distortion on the 15mm canon fisheye for stills, or the 3.5mm century for 16mm.
whatever mack dawg used to run on that sr3 was sick too.

aleyland.. that's totally true. is nice to get a bit wider but I found that the .55 was much more functional in the majority of application so that's why I bought it. Ocassionaly I'd like that funky blown out fishy fish look, but most of the time getting just a really wide with the .55 was preferred for clients and such. It doesn't really fit the traditional fisheye concept I think, it's more of an extreme wide and that just works for me more often.
Like on this piece: plenty of the .55 in here.

I have the Cavision .7x, it's super light, and not overwhelmingly wide on the 4.5mm HVX lens. It definitely has barrel distortion (so does the stock lens, though) but not an extreme amount.

There's no .3x fisheye available for the HVX? No wonder skateboard filmers who own HVX's still shoot with VX1000's with MK1 fisheyes.
Justyn
07-22-2008, 09:56 AM
a .3 on the HVX would be a circular round fisheye that I just find to be so unpleasant. That 16x9 fish is totally wide enough for most apps. and I love the .55 from century for everything else. a .3 is a one trick pony looking shot IMHO

century has a fisheye that weighs 4 lbs for the HD cams. i had one for my sony fx1. and it was just unbelieveably heavy. but sooooooo wide. i loved it but it was becoming a hassle just filming a clip.

i love it as well. i don't shoot action sports for a living so i can't justify the $3k century lens.
