hiiiii

im helping shoot a wedding in a couple weeks. im using my HVX202 and the other guy is using a sony Z1P. due to the complications of raw MXF files and the fact i only own one 16GB card, ill be shooting in SD and him in HDV.

the dvd will obviously not be a HDDVD or Blueray and its not an issue.

what i would like to know is if anyone had any tips on what settings i could change on my HVX to help it match up with the Z1P? its an outside wedding (unless its not raining).

any other advice on shooting weddings also appreciated!

oh and yesssss i know everyone hates weddings but the cash is going towards a holiday haha!!

thanks

Rent the cards you need to shoot 1080i HD.

Seriously - you won't come close if you're SD and he is HDV.

Also - white balance on the same thing at the same time.

Complications with mxf files? like...? You can't dump the cards over to a hard drive after the ceremony?

If you really can't take any of these measures the best way to match is to have him shoot dvcam (or miniDV) and you shoot the same thing. Make sure your framings match (4:3 or 16:9)

I have both the Sony Z1P & the HVX 202 for quite some time & I used both of them quite extensively until I sold the Z1 for very obvious reasons. HDV sucks.

Anyhow, what I would do is the set both camera on default video settings because if u turn on the cine settings in both cameras, you will get very different results, ie, the colors, blacks, highlights will turn out very different depending on the settings.

White balancing to the same white card will help but not absolutely. It will be good to bring a good monitor with 2 inputs, plug both cameras in to see the images, do some minor adjustments to be color temp & iris control.

Most importantly, set both camera to shot on the same format & aspect ratio (if 16:9, then squeeze or letterbox) Mixing formats or aspect ratio will make editing a nightmare. I guess your only choice will be DV.

thanks for that!
its not easy to hire P2 cards where i live so i think ill get his camera and sit them together and make sure its all looking somewhat similar. will shoot on DV.
