I'm working on a pilot for a Demolition Derby series that will *hopefully* get picked up by the Speed channel. (I'm the lead editor)

Well, I'm just finishing a one minute teaser to give to the producer so he can shop it around.

I NEED A SIMPLE MOTION GRAPHIC INTRO, and I thought I had the skills to pull it off, but I've quickly found it's not looking so good. I just don't have the AE skills.

Anyway, here's the cover of the brochure, and I'd like to make a simple animated intro similar to the logo/cover. Anyone wanna take the time to give me some pointers?

I'm thinking an explosion, then the text is revealed with an "earthquake" effect (wiggle), maybe a couple of stars float around, then another explosion to fade out. EDIT: Or maybe a "fire extinguisher" effect to fade out!

I don't have any stock explosions on my system, and don't really know where to begin. I successfully created fire, but that doesn't really fit with the theme.

Any help much appreciated. I'm not asking for free work, just someone to walk me through a quick way to make it happen. If not, I'll just have a floating 3D text with fire behind it, and that's lame.

I'm on AE 7, by the way...

Detonation Films has some cheap, even some free explosions that might be useful.

Edit: a little late onthe post - Thomas beat me to the punch.

Thanks so far!

Yeah... I found those yesterday, but I'm not really liking them, to tell the truth. I think I'd rather make and explosion... more like an animation explosion than realistic.

trapcode seems interesting, but I don't have it (at the moment). I'll keep looking around for tutorials. If anyone knows any good explosion tutorials, PLEASE let me know.

I found this, maybe give it a try...

"Before i bought a CD of stock explosions from VCE.com, i'd come up with a technique which i still think looks pretty good.

Create a comp and a new solid, and apply Fractal noise and then apply Colorama using the Fire and Smoke preset. Keyframe the scale settings to the size of the fire rush toward the camera.

Bring this comp into your new footage comp and use an animated mask to have your fireball expand.

This technique will get you quite far, but you're probably going to want to fiddle with a lot of the settings to get it to look right for you. "

Just found it too. I'll give it a try. Also found this which looks promising:

PERFECT.

I'll see if the producer can fit it in the budget...

If you do have Particular.. you can download the Motionworks Explosion Pack for free from John D's site:

The one I did I can render and throw your way if you need a basic explosion (minus the plasma ring, which I assume you don't need).

do you have the photoshop files of that logo or promotional piece???

if so i would work with the stars and animate in and out of them and use it as a frame for some video and use it to highlight key points.

sometimes take whats already been designed for you and let AE jazz it up rather then start from scratch??? but as far as explosions im with everybody else. good luck.
