Comcast is rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 (http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/03/and-were-off-twin-cities-get-first-docsis-3-0-deployment/)

Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota have become the first markets to have access to an all new "extreme" broadband connection, which promises 50Mbps down / 5Mbps up
:2vrolijk_08:

I hope this quickly makes it's way down to Mankato. 6Mbps is so last week. ;-)

150 a month . eek. gonna have to add the cost of all the extra HDD's needed to hold all that new stuff the internet has to download that needs that speed.

i love how they always compare it to DSL. DSL is like dial up basically. ive always hated DSL, never bought into it from the start, so i like to see em sticking it to them

I know. We've been stuck with lame Hickorytech and Charter for years. My Hickorytech service is god awful right now. Most webpages load as quickly as 56k and others quickly load up to 50% and then completely stop. No load. Nothing. Just a white page.

Damn. I never thought I'd say that I'm glad I stuck with Charter.

The internet was running just fine until we added Digital Tv. The new modem/router they installed is causing major conflicts with our Netgear wireless router. And to top it all off, our Digital Tv unit died on us a few days ago.

Weeeeeeeee.....

They had me at 50Mbps....but lost me at 150...

I've had great experience with the cable modem here in south minneapolis (timewarner, then comcast)...way, way way better than DSL (poor reliablity, poor speed, and poor customer service...thank you USWorst...)...what I would rather see is better upload speeds but I have no real complaints right now...course, if I was still gaming online I'd probably do the 150/month...

I live in the middle of nothing near Northfiled, and a company out of Owatona hooked up a fibre line direct to my house, right now I can get up to 40 Mbps, for much less than what comcast is going to charge. I had the 40 for a month (now 10) and even uploading large files for clients, paying a bigger premium to jump up even high does not make any sense.

I agree that the cost is outrageous, and I have no plan to pick up that service (whether or not it was available here). However, I think this is good news because it means that the competition is going to have to step it up.

...I hope.
