best screencapture software

Does anyone know what the best software for recording one's desktop is? I'm currently using Snapz Pro X for Mac but I've found that it slows down the computer far too much when running to capture anything of real use. Are there any programs out there that are better optimized? I'm running a G4 laptop with a gig of ram and a 128mb video card so I think I should be able to record the desktop without the computer running at about 1/3 speed.

I've used Camtasia. Not sure if it meets your requirements though.
You can adjust the frame rate to capture at. There's a free demo anyways.
