Does anyone here know how to create the "worm hole effect" in After Effects CS3?

The classic sci-fi effect where the SG1 team walks through a "worm hole" to another planet.

If anyone here has seen Star Gate you'll know what I'm talking about.

I have a couple of questions about these effects.

1. Is it even possible to do this effect in After Effects Cs3 Pro?

2. How would I go about making these effects?

Are you trying to re-create the rippled surface of the gate, or the POV shot of the path though space between gates?

Yea, I was thinking the same question Mikko ... for what it's worth, I'd like to know how to recreate the rippled surface of the gate, if anyone can shed some light on a similar effect.

Also seen in The Matrix when Neo touches the mirror as he starts his journey to freedom from teh machines.

You could use a displacement map in After Effects.

I'm trying to re-create the rippled surface of the gate.

Displacement map... I've always thought it looked like water personally, and would try some of the water tutorials out there and apply it vertically instead of horizontally.
