Emile Meyer -- FI

Hi all!
My name's Emile Meyer, an indie filmmaker based in Pretoria, South Africa, and I'm the co-writer, producer, and director of this mess...uhm...I mean this film. I'm new to DVXuser.com and this is my first post (duh!), so I'm glad to be a part of this awesome filmmaking community.
Well, the film I'm submitting into the TimeFest Festival, is called X.
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/7151/xteaserposterzi0.jpg
The film tells a tale of one man who's time is currently running out, and it shows, in a rather surrealistic fashion exactly how it's affecting him as a human being as well as how it's affecting the reality and environments around him.
Originally, this film was written merely as a bunch of random instances with no apparent link to one another, as well as for it to be a test piece upon which we could test chromakeying on a shoe-string budget. That was until we realized the "time" symbolism in the plot and we started re-working the script until we were happy, and the rest, as it is normally said, is history. We soon had a decent film which we could actually submit to film festivals...and it had an actual plot!
So far, we have an entire crew and a cast of two (there are only four characters in the story, and I'm not divulging any dirt on who's playing which character) and we're scheduled to shoot in mid April.
We've got tons of storyboards (okay, not actual tons), but I'll be posting them on here when I get a chance. Also, we currently only have two pieces of concept art, as the other art got...uhm....lost somehow. I'll posting these on here as well.
Well, I look forward to actually releasing the film... and I hope everyone loves it.
Thanks for your time, guys.
Kindest regards,
Emile Meyer

Hey everyone!
An update with the two concepts I promised yesterday, with some crew info thown in for colour and taste.
http://fir3storm.com/content/x/cell-concept.jpg
This concept was done in like five minutes by the talented Mr. Anthony Scroggins (http://shimmering-sword.deviantart.com). This is the original sketch for a futuristic hallway scene right at the beginning of the film, however, this was done for the first draft of the script. The script has gone through three draft changes in the meantime, and that scene's been modified a bit to fit the budget, but it's still more or less the same.
http://fir3storm.com/content/x/X01.jpg
This concept is also done by Mr. Anthony Scroggins (http://shimmering-sword.deviantart.com). This is the official concept of the lead character, X. As you can see it's a very rough sketch. The wardrobe for this guy is going to be different than what's actually being depicted in the artwork.
These are the only two concept art pieces for this film. The other stuff has been lost, and we're not too sure how that happened, but I suppose that's what happens when the concept travels back and forth alot.
Anyway....
Here's some crew info:
Directed and Produced by: Emile Meyer
Written by: Louise Cochran Mason & Emile Meyer
Story by: Louise Cochran Mason
Director of Photography: Henrian Pieterse
Music by: Christiaan Van Rooyen, In Ashes

For those curious folk, we're shooting on a Hi-8...stay tuned for more on that...;)
That's all I got for you for now.
I'll post more later.
Cheers!

**Update: 2008/04/02
Hey all!
I'm putting up some storyboards, just to give everyone some semblance of an idea into which direction this story is heading in.
All of the boards were done by the talented Debi Hammack (http://www.debihammack.com/). She created ALL of the storyboards for X as well as ALL the boards for another short animated short I'm produced called Tannis.

That's it for now, unfortunately. I'll hopefully have more stuff to post after this coming weekend as we'll have loads more photos available...and even though this isn't official yet (holding thumbs here, hoping it is), but the official poster for X might be done by Monday...or so I'm being told. Well, here's hoping!
Anyhoo...
I'll add another update soon!
Cheers, guys!

Howdy everyone!
Last Saturday (April 5th, 2008 -- that's almost a week ago; time flies... ) we had a rehearsal/crew meeting where we finalized ALL of the loose ends regarding the shoot and where we held a final rehearsal (that we filmed).
Now, the evening's events were a roaring success and we managed to get EVERYTHING done...YAY!!!!
We took some random photos of the evening, so I'm going to post some of them here.

Taking a small break. On the left of the photo (the woman on the couch), is Nicolette Vermeulen, my set designer. On the right is Daniel Visser, the guitarist for the band In Ashes. They're scoring the movie for me.

Talking signatures in the movie and discussing some technical camera details with my DP, Henrian Pieterse (left, in the white shirt).

One of the many random pics taken that evening. This is the only picture of our camera we're going to shoot with. It's a Samsung Hi8 camcorder. Very cool camera.
Well, those were some of the photos. There's too much to post. I'll put up more when I've got the lot.
On a side note: I mentioned a while back about the poster that I'll post for you guys. Now, there's been a few setbacks on the designer's side and the poster is going to be delayed for an undefined period. I'll keep you posted.
Later.
