Ok, so I know that premiere projects can be imported into after effects. But when I do import them and drop them on the time line I see them as one big file instead of seeing all the cuts that I see on the premiere time line. Basically I'm importing the premiere project to after effects for color correction, and if I cannot cc each shot individually it's no good for me. There's got to be a way to be able to import the final premiere edit into after effects and to be able to see each shot individually instead of one big file. It's probably something simple but I haven't got around to it yet.

Make sure your importing the project as a composition. Then you should be able to open the comp and each clip and transition will have its own layer and you can cc away.

You have to have enough time on the timeline to compensate for the full length. For example; if the Premiere time line is one minute and the after effects time line only thirty seconds, After Effects will truncate(place all the clips starting at the beginning of the time line(stacking them)) to contain all the clips. I am not sure if this is exactly what you have, but that has been my experience with importing from Premiere.

Make sure you are doing these steps
start in AE with a fresh project (nothing imported)
Import the Premiere project
A dialouge comes up called "Premiere Pro Importer"
select the sequences you want (or all) and click OK
Now, all your files (video, audio, still and the sequences (timelines) which are now called compositions) should have imported to the project window.
Find the composition file which shares the same name as your Premiere Sequence. Double Click it and the project should pop up with each edit as its own layer. Color Correct away.
