is it better to stay with a panasonic camera to capture with or does it matter? will i loose quality on playback?

You don't have to use a Panny. I've used a Sony for capture since I got my DVX. There is no loss of quality on playback. It's all digital (1s and 0s).

Not sure about the dvx, but ive tried to capture on a newer sony handycam with footage shot on a gl1, it didnt work for some reason, the playback on the sony was off.

yea, I've found that footage capture easiest with the camera it was shot on.

but I am going to start running a small canon for my captureing to be easier on the dvx's heads

I capture stuff from my DVX on a $150 JVC camera. Works the same.

For some reason, though, I've always gotten audio problems when capturing footage shot on some Canon cameras (especially the GL1).
