Okay guys, I'm new here, I need to build a dolly, and I want to use the Matthews doorway dolly as a model http://www.msegrip.com/img/productImages/395000_Doorway_Complete.JPG

I'm haing a hard time coming up with a device to mount the wheels, and the steering....since I do not want tracks. Do any of you know of wheel systems that I can buy? Or any DIY thread that deals with the WHEELS and STEERING specifically? I await your answers.

Hey jowei

I got your PM but my as well as respond here.

I got my spindle components here:
http://www.gokartgalaxy.com/spindle_sets_&_components.htm

Had someone weld it onto a simple frame I built. They worked out great, however I would recommend you get the tie rods kit too.

My Matthews dolly project turned out great, has been a valuable tool. Weeks after I finished I finally ran across some pictures showing the frame and steering components up close. Maybe they will help you:

(pictures are not mine, ran across them on another site)

cool man! now that I see the finished product I can get the whole picture of the design, I'll hook up with a friend of mine who knows soldering, since I paid for one of those www.aproductiontool.com dolly on ebay, and got my money stolen apparently....the seller doesn't respond and it's been a month already and nothing. Are you using inflatable pneumatics? I bought some pneumatics with no air, just all rubber, since I don't want it to bump.

It would be nice if you could list all the little details, or a rough plan of how to build it, plus a list of the parts by name. If you don't want (because it's your invention and you have the rights to it) I'll understand... Let me know... because I'm a little confused with the steering part.

If the dolly operator is not careful it will bump. Also too much weight on a corner will tilt the dolly as the tire gives in. I would be interested to see how full rubber tires do.

Planning to buy some bigger and wider tires for improved stability.

Dolly track guage:

24.5" wheel center to wheel center is the most important specification you should stick to as you work your dolly forward. That is one standard that will allow you to ride on industry-standard tracks if you ever want to.
