Hi,
I have a quick question!
I am transferring a 8GB SxS card's footage over to a MBP - and it is taking forever to do single 1 minute clips (approx. 270mb) - takes about 5minutes per clip!
Is this normal?
Any way I can make this process go faster - or other ways to store the footage for now that is faster?
Thanks,
Ben

Try dragging the folders over to your MBP and then open them from there. If you're using the Clip Browser, it may take considerably longer. A full card copy through USB should take no more than 8 minutes.

It takes me a good 25 minutes to copy a full 8GB card via camera USB port. And 45min to transfer a full 16GB card.

that's weird. I have been offloading 16GB cards in about 8 minutes. something is wrong

It takes me 10 minutes to off load 16GB to my MacPro through pci express.

5 minutes for an 8GB card over pci express sounds about right

Ah sorry, maybe I misunderstand. Is this about copying the whole card contents to computer hard drive via camera USB port?
What I was referring to is connecting camera via USB port, opening clip browser and exporting as MXF direct from the camera to my PC harddrive. Is this it? Are the transfer times that drastically quicker when you dont do an MXF export?

Mac users don't have the luxury to select MXFs out of the XDCAM transfer tool yet.
However, If you using a PC and transferring files from the camera's USB port, I'm sure it's considerable slower.
PCI Express slot on the MBP is the way to go --IMHO.

I think I was getting between 2 and 2.5 times realtime for transferring via USB plugged into the camera (Mac Pro) - in other words a 10 minute clip took around 4 minutes to transfer. Might be worth trying pluging into a different USB port if it is slow (directly on the computer, and not via a hub) as I think USB2 can sometimes drop back to USB1, which would give very slow transfer rates.

It's all about what USB port you're using , there is a USB and USB2.0, sometimes USB2 (Enhanced Host Controller in your Windows Device Manager) does not installed by default and you have to manually upgrade your USB drivers, sometimes not all USB ports act as a USB2.0 port, but as a USB, (most offten front load ports on desktops), that's why such a difference in dumping files time, check your USB drivers try different USB port;
45 min for 16Gb is not USB 2 for sure
