We can definitely do a dvxuser nab party if someone has a location or wants to host one for us.

A user party would be great. It would be fun to meet the folks here on the forum. Any suggestions where we can get together?

I'll be there! Apr 13th-16th

Looking forward to seeing a lot of you (again). And meeting others for the first time. :)

I'm thinking about organizing a LA HVX200 User Group dinner gathering. Of course others are welcome. I figure we can all meet SOMEWHERE in Vegas. :)

Feel free to PM me your name, cell, email.

Let's hold the party in Jarred's hotel room. Someone follow the big guy and find out where he's staying, then post it here and we'll have a meetup/swarm on his pad.

I'm up for a party, I'll be there 13th - 17th.

But I'm busy 13th and i think the 14th in the evening.

He'll probably stay at the Wynn . His guest room is probably ONLY 700-900 square ft.
Barry, I'm sure your suggestion will be a big hit with Jarred.
Seriously, I'd kick in $ 200 bucks for food and drink, especially if Barry and Jarred were there. Or even just to meet them for drinks somewhere other than a hotel room.
Barry-Jarred, up for some free drinks?

Ah, I remember the DVXUser NAB Party of '06. I remember the 2nd night of the party was canceled due to, uh, the hotel's insistence. Wow - did we actually have TOO much fun for Vegas?? :)

I'll be there.

Over on Reduser Jarred strongly indicated he'd be renting a penthouse again this year for a DVXUser party

Which thread is it ? I thought maybe it was for RED users...? ARE we truly invited ?
Do we register as RED users group members ?
Wouldn't DVX-HVXusers be considered the cheap side of the family...lol
Would we be allowed to sit at the adult table, or the smaller kids table in the other room.? Or do we need to set up our own party, and allow the RED types to come in?
I would prefer to have it anywhere other than my own room. Plus a room just for a party, not including food, may be hard to come by, let alone $$$.
I'd be happy to spring for a share of the food and adult beverages, but I don't really want to be in charge of the venue...Suggestions?
BARRY-JARRED, you there ?

Shawn Philip Nelson
03-26-2008, 01:54 PM
No, it's a separate party for sure.

Jarred said someone else had to reserve the location for a Reduser party because he was already booking a suite for DVXUser and didn't want to book two suites.

April 13th is my 6th year wedding Anniversary. From what I gather the NAB starts on the 13th? I ask the wife if she would like to go to Vegas for our Anniversary, so it looks as if we may be heading down that way. The cost factor on flying really suck when you are flying from Anchorage, Alaska but in the same breath I can do two things – Celebrate our Wedding and hang out at the NAB.

Not knowing Vegas can someone give me the details on how to get to the NAB location and the cost for getting through the doors? I was told that the Plaza Hotel isn't too expensive?

Thanks

TedRR
03-30-2008, 08:41 PM
To get to the show you can ask any Cab driver. I usually line up at the front door of the Casino and carpool with 3-4 other people going to the convention.

Casino's are dropping their rates. I'm assuming because attendance is down from years past, but 10% drop from a kazillion people is still a lot of people! :)
Go online and yo ucan check all the casino's.
Since it's your anniversary, you better stay at a decent casino. Don't take your wife to an off the strip hotel to save a few bucks, or it might cost you a few bucks. :)

You still have time to get a free pass. But I think you missed the deadline to have it shipped to you. You'll have to pick up your free pass at the registration counter in the front of the convention.

I'll pass on NewTek's free pass code to you.
Go to NAB Registration and enter the following code.
Your "special code" is AE2055

Have fun!

Er, the Plaza is... well, as of a couple of years ago, I guess I'm saying I wouldn't classify it in the upper echelon of Vegas hotels. If it's an anniversary, you want to be going to someplace like the Mirage, Bellagio, Venetian, MGM, Monte Carlo, Caesars, even the Luxor or Rio or, if your tastes run more to the non-family-oriented, the Hard Rock or the Palms.

The downtown hotels (4 queens, Binion's, Plaza, California, places like that) are not representative of modern Las Vegas, they're old-time Vegas and they're mainly locals gambling joints, not "resort destinations". In other words, nobody goes to Vegas to go to the Four Queens or the Plaza. If you want to check out NAB you can register for a free pass (just google "free NAB pass") and pick a hotel near the Convention Center.

There are also a lot of hotels on the Strip that are, well, last I was there I'd say they were "on the decline." Places like the Riviera, Imperial Palace, Circus Circus, Tropicana, etc.

Jim Brennan
04-02-2008, 12:42 PM
Hey Barry,

Can you describe "on the decline"? Are we talking a bit out-of date, or are we talking dirt, rats and cockroaches?

I only ask because I am booked at the Imperial Palace....

Barry_Green
04-02-2008, 01:01 PM
I'm being generous. :)

Well, the IP isn't that bad, but it's nowhere near the status of the hotels that people think about when they think Vegas. I doubt you'll find rats and cockroaches, but the walk from the front of the hotel to the parking lot will overwhelm you with the stench of sewage or grease trap or whatever the heck it was... there are certainly worse hotels than the IP.

All I'm saying is, if someone's planning a cross-country trip to celebrate their anniversary in Vegas, the IP and the others are certainly not where I'd advise someone to stay if they want the "entertainment capital of the world" experience.

Jim Brennan
04-02-2008, 01:16 PM
Okay, I can live with that. We stayed at the Hilton last year and paid about $250 per night. We are getting the IP for $89, (which is good since my wife just got laid off) I'm a fast-food kind of a guy, so "fancy" doesn't do much for me. If the room is clean, We'll be fine.

Will be in Vegas April 14-21 to attend NAB. I'm staying with friends and got a rental car to get around. I reg. for the P2 party this year. Heard about it post the party last year(this year got the postcard probably cause I got a new HVX200 to add to our DVX100 we really like and felt it was time to upgrade to HD/P2) but did make it to the DVXUser Party. It was a lot of fun and really great to meet other Users! Hope it happens again I'd enjoy seeing old friends and making some new ones.
