My DVX100A Has been a warrior! I've gotten raves from everyone on the output (though my JVC HD100 sort of makes it look a bit gritty -- but that's part of its charm). Today, when I turned the camera on, I was shocked to see the LCD was a bluish white. For a few seconds it went back to normal, the it went blank again. I only have 150 hours on the heads and probably no more than 200 hours total (if that). I'm assuming the LCD needs to be replaced, right? Or is there something stupid I'm not thinking of. If it's indeed the LCD, how much does such a repair cost and I'd appreciate any advice on where to send it for the repair so i don't get ripped off.
Thanks all,
Jim

I've had a similar problem like that twice with my DVX-100A.
Each time it was due to small amounts of moisture which had worked it's way into the edges of the screen. The last time was literally two small rain drops that I thought I had wiped up before they could do any harm.
Both times I had to replace the LCD. A surprise was when the engineer opened up the LCD. I did a lot of shooting in salty air around beaches and third world countries with high humidity. The amount of corrosion was unbelievable to me since I babied the camera and it lived in a great Porta-Brace rain cover any time I was near a beach.
They don't sell the LCD for a DVX100A as a unit any more. You have to do a component repair. Find out which part went bad and replace it. It can be done by an approved Panasonic repair shop. Cost will vary but be prepared to spend at least four or five hundred bucks...and that might be a little low...but I hope I'm wrong.
All you can do at present is get your camera into the hands of a qualified engineer and figure out exactly what part isn't working and replace it. The number of parts and time of delivery for replacement parts will determine the damage. Be ready to wait a while for Panasonic to send the parts. They are not known for being very fast delivering parts.

Thanks! Fortunately I only need it for playback right now (all the shooting is done). Plus I have JVC and Canon HD cameras now, but I spent a small fortune on the Equinox housing. I'm thinking a better solution is to simply buy a separate LCD monitor (like a 7-inch model) which I could use on the other cameras, too.
Are there no repair facilities subscribing to this group? Seems like it would be a smart move. But what do I know?
