View Full Version : Personal Website name - help?

EDIT: At this point, I've pretty much given up on my name. Everything I try is already taken, but I'm still open to offers.

OK... I've already got the company website, but I'm looking to build a personal website.

Ideally, I just wanted my name, plain and simple (ryanbrown.com). I'm fairly certain thats one I wouldn't get sick of after a couple months. Unfortunately, my parents weren't in a very creative mindset when they chose this name, so alas, it's already taken.

And so is everything else I can think of.

Any ideas??

Yes, it'll be filmmaking orientated, but I also dabble in other fine arts and would like to keep it open ended.

If anyone has any ideas, please toss 'em up here. I'll do the checking to see if they're taken, so no hassles to you. At this point, I'm open to just about ANYTHING, but I want people to know its a personal site, not a company.

taken, and not fond of my full name.

Couple I just tried:

brownsoutlet.com; brownscreation.com; theryanbrowneffect.com

couple of those were open... but they're just off the top of my head...

I know you said you're not interested in using your name, but after having "frenchquarterfeatures.com" for three years I'm about to go the opposite direction and use my name. I'll have both actually but they will go to the same site.

It all depends on what you are branding and selling. I could give a poo if french quarter features never makes another movie, but I want jobs as a Director for whomever will hire me or make my movies for me, and that stuff isn't fitting on my website in the context of french quarter features.

So what are you branding / pimping, you or a company? I guess something like rybro could do both maybe.

Jack... it's not that I'm not interested, it's just that everything is taken already with my common-ass name. Same as you, I'm not looking for another "company" site. I just want to show my personal work, in all mediums, and let the work speak for itself.

Once I move outta here, I'm planning on going at it a different route. Freelance, and a "one-man show", so I'll be using this as a personal resume, if you will. I will direct bands to my personal site for music vids, possible clients of all type's, and also use the site to show potential employers.

Oooh... I like some of those.

I just checked, and
ryanscanvas
brownscanvas
are both available

I really like ryanbrownpro, and ryanbrownHD (although that may limit me a tad with my other mediums, but it sounds good)

EDIT: actually, I really like ryanbrownHD. It could be interpreted as a channel, right? "discoveryHD" anyone?

Sorry Tom... I thoroughly enjoy "ryanbrownkicksass.com", and I'll consider it for the site I'm not trying to land gigs through... but I'm not sure if potential employers could appreciate the title ;)

To be honest, I meant that sarcastically, but the more I think about it, it could work for music vids and odds and ends:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

If you like a suggestion you might want to chuck the $6.85 at it to save it... even if you end up using something else.

In the past I've thought of some cool domain names and then a month or two later the name pops in my head again and it's then taken. I hate to sound like a salesman for domain sites... but it is pretty crazy when you realize that there's probably over a half billion people considering web names every day. Anytime I think of one I like I check it right away... I've got a few parked domains.

Have you ever thought of some domain name you liked, only to find it taken by somebody who's had it for years, and has never even done anything with it? I kind of wish that wasn't legal... but then again... when in Rome...

...so if you really like a suggestion I wouldn't sit on it for too long.

Too late!!!! I just registered all the names he likes. If he wants them then he's going to have to pay $8.85!!!! That's a profit of two George Washingtons, BABY!!!

How about ryanbrown.net ??

Just for laughs... based on my earlier post and the suggestion of dot net above.

Check this out... www.gotsmarts.com

Price? $14,985.00

Or you could have... www.gotsmarts.net

Price? $6.85

Hell I'm tempted to register that myself and try to make that sweet $2 like PK! You know when somebody throws fifteen grand at that first one... that they won't hesitate to pay you the extra $2 that is rightly yours for the dot net.

How about ryanbrown.net ??

It's taken. Too bad, says I, someone who had to go with .net for my name.

RyanBrownPrivateEye.com

Because everyone sounds cool with "private eye" after their name.
