The only place that would insure my equipment for worldwide travel was Lloyds of London. Not too pricey. Excludes "marring or scratching of lenses, aerial and underwater photography and theft from an unattended vehicle"

US travel is much easier to insure.

Join NPPA and get the discounted equipment insurance through Hayes. They offer worldwide, rental, even laptop coverage. I had it in place before I picked up my two new EX1's, along with a very cheap general liability policy for my projects. Go to NPPA.com and follow the links. The peace of mind is priceless, but the insurance is affordable.

You really want full comprehensive insurance for your camera eqp so you're covered no matter what happens. The clause how you're not covered from theft from an unattended vehicle must be escpecially worrysome.

chrisccw-

plz share more about your experiences with hayes/nppa.

annual cost and extent of coverage vs. pvt business insurance.

can this type of equipment be added onto a home owner's policy or because of the "business" nature of the equipment it would not be insurable?

any and all thoughts would be helpful.

be well

First of all, the website for Nat'l Press Photographers Association is nppa.org and it costs $110/yr for anyone to join---lots of neat info there, but, you have to be a member to get the discounted insurance through Hays Affinity. "Equipment Insurance
for your photography equipment is available on a replacement cost basis. Coverage is broad and includes theft as well as drop and break. Video, sound, lighting and portable computer equipment can also be covered." It looks like my policy is about 3.5% of the new equipment invoice--and I have rental and worldwide coverage up to $25K. You really need to contact Renee Green at Hays for a quote for your situation. If you work a lot on location, I'd highly recommend the very cheap general liability policy they can get for you. I can't quote prices because they will be different for your situation, but let's just say I can pay for both policies with one full day of production billed. My homeowners policy does not provide anything but theft from home. Hope this helps.

After becoming a member, Fractured Atlas gave me affordable coverage: $75,000 in coverage for my home studio and everywhere in the world (some locations are restricted with certain policies), damaged or stolen. They also have $2 million in general liability for the year likely under $500. This is my first time getting covered like this so I like to think this is a good deal. Anyone have any negative thoughts of Fractured Atlas?
