View Full Version : Hometown, I love you
Following the trend of short films based on a certain city, wouldn't it be interesting if the dvxuser community, which is Worldwide based, did a fest based on the city they are in/love?
In the end, winners and the overall best 15 ones could be compilled as a joint short film feature, with potential for Theatre distribution?
Maybe a sponsor for BLOWUP of the films as a joint piece, similar to Paris je t'aime?
What do you guys think?

I actually thought about this a long time ago but wasn't brave enough to tell the community about it. I would love to do it...

I've been thinking of doing this anyway. What kind of ground rules could we lay to keep the playing field more level? For us newer shooters without cranes, or ability to do those amazing aerials, it would be nearly unfair to compete against the technology.
This would be my first fest, so I guess I should be happy to just try it...
Hey Emanuel!
Nice to hear from ya... Visiting us dvxuser folks for the weekend ? ;)
How's the RED working for you? It should be fantastic...
Anyway, Perrone, I suggest you take a look at "Paris Je t'aime". Each short has its own "style"... If your story works as a whole in a professional and fullfilling way, not having cranes, dollies, etc shouldn't be a problem. One thing to take into consideration is that it should look and feel professional. For that, my main suggestion is to really work on the SOUND. Just look at the movie "Once" and see how professional sound works in a "Dogma" like shot movie...
I would suggest a limited time for the shorts ( which is already being applied in the current dvx festival rules), maybe 7 minutes tops- but people can do it shorter if they want, with NO GENRE restriction- you can do action, horror, comedy, docummentary, etc., as long as it fits the "Hometown, I love you" theme.
More suggestions are welcome... I believe we need rules in order to achieve some sort of coherent piece. Maybe a common element? Like a street sign, a Taxi or Bus (they are different from town to town, country to country), a landmark, etc?
The top 15 most voted entries would then be compilled in a feature lengh movie/DVD?
Just throwing ideas, here...

This sounds like I great idea! And i agree with SPZ you should have to add in a taxi or sign or something. But great idea!

let's keep this going guys!
Sincerely, I'm waiting for the DVX User festival organizers to pick this up. Its a little idea that could be huge, as long as the International DVXuser gets involved.
For USA DVXusers, I would suggest a story in their town, but more on the particular things of their neighbourhoods. There are many DVXusers from NY, California, etc, but if anyone could focus in a particular part of town that says to them something, this would probably be a good way to distinguish it from the rest...
IMO, There definately should be something connecting all the shorts. I believe that, to avoid people starting filming early or having such a short already shot, for the Responsibles of the DVXUser Festival to define these elements. I suggested buses or taxis, but it can be something completely different...

Hey guys,
I know that this idea has been presented before. Dustin Rogan has been spearheading a movement over in the TimeFest threads for a project like this. You might want to check that out... it's not exactly what you guys are talking about but it has gotten the attention of some mods.
Just a thought.
Kyle
Well, as long as this is done, I have no problems as to who heads wathever- heck, its less trouble and time consuming for me :)
Hope this comes to fruition. A global DVXUSER event would be fantastic. Maybe it would get enough buzz for mainstream media coverage?
EDIT- We could pic up the One World, one Dream Olympic slogan for this :)

My home town is Drug infested ghost town that is shadow of it's former self. I guess there could be a story in there somewhere. I am so glad I got out of there.

yes, indeed. In fact, this sentence where you describe your hometown could be a brilliant synopsis of that film!
