anyone put their unwieldly handheld ex1 onto a glidecam?

i'm not flaming the ex1. just the opposite-every review has mentioned the camera's awkward handheld ability and thus the use of the el cheapo shoulder mounted rigs.

if so, care to share?

would love to see some footage

thanks in advance

be well

I'm pretty sure that glidecam (used to have one) could handle EX1,
but I tried to set it up on Merlin and I couldn't, at least without additional weights, it's not really heavy, but I was unable to get any balance with the standard set of weights, and I can set the Merlin quickly, from HV10 to Z1 or any other compatible cam.

You're right on this being unwieldly. Because of the rotating handgrip the Ex1 is crazy off balance, the Z7 is surprisingly balanced though.

ecking-

ex1=1/2" chips
z7=1/3" chips

i guess i need to learn how to handle an unbalanced camera!

I used it on a V-16 without any problems.

Not sure if everyone knows the fundamentals of balancing a Glidecam or a Steadicam, but it's actually simple enough.

First, balance the sled, minus camera, as you want it configured.

Then find the center of gravity of the camera. Make note of where that is in relation to the tripod mounting hole.

Mount the camera on the Glidecam so the camera's center of gravity sits directly over the center post of the Glidecam. That will probably mean the mounting hole on the camera is offset on the Glidecam.

After that, fine tune the balance and you're all set.

i have gotten the EX-1 to work on my Glidecam 2000 by extending the pole to its max length and adding all of the large wieghts that came with the unit. also had to put the 2nd spring in my smooth shooter vest. i think its fair to say that the EX1 has outgrown the 2000 though. i have looked into modifying my 2000 somewhat but have a feeling i will just have to bump up to a larger unit...probably the 4000.

Can you elaborate a bit more as I am having rough time balancing my EX1 of Glidecam Pro 4000? For instance, what do you mean by balancing the sled 1st? It might be helpful to many if you can give a step by step process that you use. Will really appreciate that.

About the center of gravity of the camera - with no attachments, stock battery, and LCD open, where is it likely to be?
