We have a couple of wedding and sporting events coming up this year. Can anyone tell me if there is a comparable cam to the dvx100b that could be used as a secondary camera and still get matching picture quality? We can't afford another dvx100b until we get some more jobs under our belts but need something soon.

Maybe an XL2, but I'd look at the DVC-80, since its about the same as the DVX minus the 24p capability.

if no 24 is needed ud be suprised the picture quality the panny pv-dv952/53 will give you. the gs 400/500 are also good little cams. all these cams are found on ebay.

 Thanks. I was having a hard time finding the DVC-80 and I don't need 24p for what I am going to be doing.

Does it have all the scene file settings the DVX has minus the progressive modes?

The DVC80 is also what I use (I have two) and does basically all the DVX does with the exception of 24p. The have been discontinued for a couple of years (too close to the DVX in price and was hurting DVX sales, as I understand it). I bought both of mine on the internet. One on e-bay (5 hours on it) and the other from a wedding video guy who was getting out of the business (29 hours). They do pop up occasionally on e-bay, but sounds like you need something pretty quick. Good luck.

I need it by June 7. We are also shooting college football games this fall and it sounds like the DVC80 would be our best bet. If I can find one at the right price. Thanks for all the advice.

I have a dv953 right now and i plan on getting a Dvx100b after this summer so then i can use my dv953 as my backup and the dvx as my main, I have the feeling it'll work out pretty good and ill probably get my first chance to really test this out next year when i shoot my cousins wedding. But if your not looking to spend a whole lot you could pick up a 953 for like 500 bucks on ebay and get pretty good results...
IMO the DVC30 is one of the greatest deals in 3ccd cameras. No 24p and you've gotno xlr without an adapter but they make a great B cam. I've got 2 that I just can't seem to let go of. They cut great with my 100b's. They also do a "frame" rate which I believe is some kind of 30p type cadence.
Again they pop up on ebay often. If you need a shoulder cam the DVC60 is basically the same camera.

I just bought a DVC-80 on e-bay and Sony Vegas Pro 8. Hopefully we will be all set for this June wedding and the fall football. Thanks for the help.
