So I finally finished my Red Rock shoulder mount rig! and it is fully functional! yess! This was a 3 month project that shot it's first HD video a few days ago.

ok this thing is a little bit of work to set up but it's almost all parts that can be easily bought and put together.

I saved lots of money by making my own HD LCD monitor. By using a 7 in Computer LCD screen and a Component to VGA transcoder (however if i would to redo it, I would buy a better transcoder or something that converts the video signel better)

Total Cost with Redrock HD adapter: 2150.

HD Redrock Adapter: 1200 ish
LCD monitor: 300
Transcoder: 60
Extended Hand grips: 160
Shoulder Mount thing: 80
DIY Batteries: 160
Cables/connectors: 20
24in 15mm Rods: 50
LCD support to hand grips. 50
other little things i forgot: 70 (cavision extention for grip and more)

I would post a detail instructions but i have to go to class right now. If people really want one I'll post one soon!

My own review of my rig:
There are a few kinks to work out still. But overall I am very happy with it. The weight is fairly balanced over my shoulder. (still need to install padding) I need to set the handle bars so that they are more centered to my body. Should be pretty easy, just need a plyer. Wires are a bit messy, which i was going to fix but now i think it looks cool. so maybe not. Focus is maual and is a little awkward cause i dont have a focus ring but maybe i can afford one soon.

Comments? suggestions?

Wow, impressive. But what about focusing?

What about sticking a zoom controller on one of the handles?

What about sticking a zoom controller on one of the handles?

Seems really unnecessary with the adapter

The zoom and focus functions would not be used, but for the record function, it would be very useful I would think.

The cavision stuff was only 200 bucks? What diy batteries are you talking about? How did you make them?

Nice rig man! Looks pro. How is it in use, do you get steady shots with it? Is it comfortable?

What transcoder did you use? I can't read the name from the photo.

What transcoder would you use next time?

I just spent the past half-hour reading-up on that and other transcoders. Do you think the quality problem may be with the VGA monitor? The VD-D3 gets pretty good reviews, but it appears that one has to match the monitor with the type of signal you're sending it because the transcoder doesn't scale the image. What do you think?

BTW: This appears to be one of the best transcoders (and only $159): http://www.crescendo-systems.com/rev_transcoder.html

How about some information on how you built your shoulder support? I've been wanting to make one for quite some time now, but I'm not sure what the best way to go about it is and yours is one of the best looking ones I've seen

Certainly an impressive assembly. I too wonder though, with the somewhat shallow depth of field of the fixed focal length lens focus has to be an issue or at least I think so. Is it?

Very curious about the battery you created. I am wanting to do something similar to get some weight in the back of my rig, a DIY battery would be great
