This is a really easy way to save a ton of money on filters. I just got 30 3x3 Tiffen filters with a few 4x4 that I wanted.
OK get a large black dvd cover. trace a 4x4 filter or cut a 4x4 square. Nick off the corners to fit in the holder. Then trace the 3x3 into the center of the plastic with the blade angled to get the hole just a bit smaller. Then you fit the 3x3 into the opening. being a tiny bit smaller the filter is wedged and doesn't more at all.
The filters are the same quality as the 4x4 and if you are using a 35mm adapter most lenses are small than 3x3
