What is your rental rate? Also just a question - how well do you know the camera and what do you charge to run the camera yourself? Is that Oakland CA where you are located at?

I charge $325 a day for that package I just described to you...
if you wanted me to run the cam for you it would be $500 a day..
and yes I am fairly knowledgable with the cam, what are you looking to do?
I am located in Huntington Beach,CA

$500/day is VERY cheap. Here in CT, we couldn't afford to stay in business at less than $1125/day per camera. Where do you live? In a tent in the woods somehwere? :)

In CA it rents for 450/day and 450/Full Weekend (Fri-Sunday).
1125 a day? I'd fly in two cameras from CA at that price. =B
Average rate is probably going to be around 650/day w/Operator or DIT. And that's if you're lucky in Ca/SoCal. I'd be happy with 500 a day with the cam going out at 250.00.

$1125/day with trained pro operator, here. Not just the EX1 in particular, but a variety of comparable kit + operator. Camera alone is about $350/day. Staff is $100/hr per person. With small discount, it's $1125.
Unless you could book 7 days a week at your rate, a business would not meet expenses up here in CT, hence the higher rate. More realistically, bookings are like 2-5 days/week and the rest of the time spent in the editing booths, so the businesses that stay afloat charge accordingly.
SoCal ain't exactly cheap to live in either, so I'm rather surprised by the bargain basement rate you quoted. If we did that here, we'd be bankrupt by the end of the year. But then, a lot of fly-by-night operations do this underselling and are gone the following year. Mostly college kids with a VX2000 or DVX100.

there is a lot more work here but also a lot more owner/operators.
you don't have to go to a rental place to find an operator. there is a lot of freelancers in southern California.

Average is $500/day with DIT/asst operator. Add a good DP, double the price at least. 4 day week for a single week, 3 day week for multiple weeks and weekends.
Add LEx and set of 12 good Nikon mount primes (i.e. at least three ZFs) with rods, basic FF and 4x4 mattebox with flag for around $250-300/day, same scale as above.
(BTW I have the bottom set myself, EX1 coming in a few weeks, but have a local friend who has one already. Also jib, track, Kessler crane, etc).

1125 is way too much for an EX-1+Operator. You can get a RED ONE package for 1000-1200 w/DIT here in LA. Some of the guys will even Operate for you and all have years upon years of experience doing so.
Maybe I need to move to Connecticut instead?
Emote has it right, about 500/a day w/DIT for HVX or EX-1, Add mad money for DP and about 200 a day for Letus Extreme.
I rent my Letus Extreme bare naked (no cam, etc) for 150.00 a day and it's paid for itself twice over already. It's gonna be hard getting the same business with the EX-1 Given the fact that it's a new camera, but ah well.
