Prize Idea?

I love prizes but id also like to see a DVXuser Fest award....

A DVXUSER award like an Oscar for the online community.

It will give winners bragging rights.....

What do you think?

Sound's like a great idea. They already have there own ideas on Best Cinematography as an E.g, but I think a DVX version of an oscar would be pretty rad if there was enough donations etc. Baring in mind it's free to enter this fest.

Personally? I wouldn't really like an Oscar-esqe prize. Just makes me feel more full of myself when I see prizes like that. If it's a real Oscar then maybe that feeling's rightly deserved, but what I like about the prizes here is that they're completely practical. Not meant to simply look pretty and get comments from other people.

the idea of it being considered "bragging rights" is in and of itself reson enough to not move forward with any sort of additional prestige being awarded to anyone. anyways, if there was additional thing to be given out, it should probably be annual, and not at every single fest.

I think it would be cool to have a nice little golden thingymajig (spelling? anyone?) to look at, but I agree that a "prize" you can use gives you possibly more fullfillment. I don't know...

I don't think he meant that it needs to be some 24 carat gold statue, Hell it could probably be a 5 dollar medal or trophy you get at a trophy store. It's just the idea I suppose, of having an award given to you by your peers.

That's what makes it special, and by all means I'm not saying a sweet prize doesn't do that (it does) its just sometimes a handshake means more than a phone call.

i'm on for this one! It may be really not expensive, but something more of a moral value besides the prizes!

Now theres an Idea I like......


Best over all yearly, annual short film award. There could be three categories,

Best film, Best cinematography and best Actor

Awarded to any person no matter what country.

Like Lone archer said. Doesn't have to be gold....

I love this stuff because you can track your success by looking at a trophy case. If you stick with film you can say to your grandkids "and this is when I won the dvxuser award for best cinematographer" or whatever. It reminds us of where we came from and hopefully it will keep us always thinking about those around us that we were just like only a short time ago. Crap there's another idea for timefest! I can't stop thinking of ideas! I agree that it should be annual though. I also think that there should be an annual party, or gathering where films are screened and dvxusers from all over gather to receive awards! We could call them the grover awards instead of the oscars!

Since I'm writing this from the basement of the Academy of Motion Picture building, I'll root around and see if I can find an Oscar or two to throw into the hat :laugh:

I think a yearly award for those who make multiple films for the community would be fun. The end of the year all the "fests" films are eligible and people vote on the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Actor etc...

It doesn't have to be an award, it could just be two/three stickied threads (nominations, voting, announcement), and i'm sure someone would Photoshop a signature for the winners.
