Hey there.

This might sound like a random question, but I was wondering this the other day and I'm curious to see if anyone knows about it.

I was shooting some powerline tower deals and I'm curious if standing underneath has any sort of effect on your camera, via static/magnetic/whatever type of charge is emmited from the lines (powerlines do this right?)

Like I said, probably random, but if anyone has some answers I would appreciate it.

When I was shooting News with an Ikegami or a TK-76 in the early 80's in Buffalo the increased use of microwave communications would make hash out of the recorded image...the viewfinder would just about get blanked out near some of the buildings downtown with microwave horns. The newer cameras had increased shielding that took care of the problem for the most part. Any shooting with long cable runs, either mic's or video will increase your chances for problems.

I was shooting with a lowly Sony HDR-HC3.. you can stop laughing now. Anyway, I often use two way radios to cue my subjects. When receiving replies, no problem. When transmitting you could clearly see some EMF impacting the image stability. Shielding will probably help you out if the towers are real high and the wires are far away. I don't think it will damage the camera.
