Hey guys, quick question.
I have PS7 (I know, I know) and this is what I'm trying to do. I need to write some text, save it as a jpeg but make sure that when I place it online, over a background, the background color is there, behind the text. The background of the jpeg needs to be transparent, if that makes sense, not white.
Can someone help me? I'm new to PS so an amateur explanation would be awesome.
Thanks!

I don't think you can save a text with transparent in a jepg.
Here's what I do, open a new file, select under "Background Contents" select Transparent. Type my text then save it as a PSD file. Then I just drag & drop my text in from the PSD file I made onto my background etc.....You may can add an action to automate the process.

Thanks, the only problem is I need to actually upload the jpg to a website template system that only takes jpg, so I can't drag and drop. I need to upload a jpg of text that will lay over the background of the website. Make sense? Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

You can't have alpha info on a jpeg.
What you need to do is sample the color of or save out that BG image and place it in the BG your jpg inside photoshop. make sense?

Are you wanting this text to be for something like an overlay for video? You need an alpha channel to do that, something that tells the software what is to be seen, and how much based on a grayscale value. You have a couple of options on how to save, but you first need to create the alpha. Once you do, save as a .psd, a 32 bit .tga, or a .png. They all support alpha channels.
If you could post an example, that would really help.

Is a .png file an option? I just opened Fireworks and it has the transparent background option. It saves in .png and jpeg.
.png isn't supported in IE6, so it wouldn't work in many browsers unfortunately.. (friggin Microsoft)
