trying to comprehend the needed storage capacity for a documentary workflow.

how much room in gigs does 1 hour of sd footage need?

how much room in gigs does 1 hour of sony hdv sp footage from a ex1 need? (shot at 720/30p)

how much room in gigs does 1 hour of sony excam hq footage from a ex1 need? (shot at 720/30p)

An hour of DV is the same as an hour of HDV (both 25mb/S) and is about 12.8GB on disc.
SQ on the EX1 is 25mb/S, so the same as above.
HQ is 35mb/S, so about 17.9GB/hr on disc or 1.4x as much as HDV.

thank u for the info. it was exactly what i needed.

i know the ex1 does not record sd. i was trying to remember the "old standard" of gigs/hard drive space as i transitition to hd via the ex1

while i have u on the line, barry have u had a chance to look over the ex1's hq footage and compare it to it's sp footage? if so, any thoughts u care to share? it is my understanding that the ex1's sp footage is the same flavor hdv as previous sony cameras like the z1 and the v1.
