I had that pic on my computer forever, and loved the story it told. I'm looking for the original artist now -- hopefully he/she will let me use it.

First draft of the screenplay is done. I like it. It's as much a mindf--- as "Minogue Space" was, but in a less confusing, more commercial way.
Next stop -- trailer!

So is the US invading Canada...
Will the US finally win it after two defeats: 1775, 1812? This short is already a must-see for me!

It's always fun to look at Visual Effects stuff! I blew up a church once, well not me personally, but I helped. AND NO I'M NOT A TERRORIST! We put everything back and no one was hurt. Now that I think of it, it would have been a lot less work and cost a lot less if we would have just done the visual effects, and it would have looked just as good!!!

oh, effects. Maybe he's using the visual effects as a pre-viz for a live documentary... that's cool for BC. Gets to kill two birds with one stone: gets rid of Ontario AND gets to welcome in the lower US tax rate :) (I'm just kidding, we love upper canada...
AND NO I'M NOT A TERRORIST!
but watch sfoster, he might be a terrorist :) )

I can't believe the reaction I get from friends when I describe the film, and especially when I show them the logo (as in the sig).
"Offence" is probably the best word to describe it. Both from my Canadian AND American friends. Canadian because, well, they're Canadians. Americans, because, why make a big deal about Canada? There's nothing up there anyway.
I have to admit that as I made the logo I felt that I was doing something... wrong. I had the urge to take a shower afterwards. Although Canadian by birth (British by heritage) like most Canadians I'm not particularly nationalistic, but the moment I clicked the mask button in Photoshop I knew I had crossed the line.
The idea of an American flag flying over Ottawa, Vancouver or, God forbid, Kitchener/Waterloo... it's just... wrong. Unspeakably so.
I'm sorry, but the story has to be told. There's no stopping it now -- it's beyond my control.

A recent Washington Post article entitled:
Raiding the Icebox; Behind Its Warm Front, the United States Made Cold Calculations to Subdue Canada, by Peter Carlson (30 December 2005),
focuses on a detailed US Plan to Invade Canada entitled "Joint Army and Navy Basic War Plan -- Red," It was formulated in the late 1920s, approved by the US War Department in 1930, updated in 1934 and 1935, withdrawn in 1939 and declassified in 1974. (See complete WP article below)
Yet upon more careful examination, an ongoing plan to annex Canada to the US, is still on the books. Today, it involves what the media refer to as "Deep Integration", which constitutes a more polite term for "Annexation".
"The Icebox" in the WP article refers euphemistically to a country we call Canada, a vast territory of strategic significance for the US, with tremendous resources extending from Coast to Coast; South from the St Lawrence Valley to the North West territories and the US Alaska border.
Most think tank experts agree that it is inevitable that Canada will eventually fall under the sphere of influence and outright control of the United States given the disparity between the two regions with respect to economic clout, infrastructure and military size. Historically, this has always been the fate of lesser nations sharing a vast border with a powerful and more developed neighbor.

Well, if you're looking for a REASON to invade Canada, you could always do it for oil. I THINK the US imports more oil from Canada than any other country in the world (1,800 thousand barrels per day vs. 2nd place Saudi Arabia at 1,400).

I think Mexico is up there too for importing oil to the States.
I think our abundunt supply of water would also be a good reason.

Lead actor is in. Going through final revisions of script.
The lead actress is a crucial role, and I hope I can get who I want. We'll see...

The truth may be more insidious that the fiction. There are certainly less dramatic ways to invade a country and thus, less apparent. Can't wait to see the film.

I spent the last couple months on the CG and some compositing, and will likely either just finish the project late, or use it in the next fest.
