I received my EX1 4 weeks ago and was anxious to get some shooting done but, with winter lingering on, it seemed hopeless that I would get any chance at all. However, as luck would have it, I was invited to a wedding in Laughlin Nevada this past weekend and spent 2 days in Laughlin and 2 days in Las Vegas.

So the first question you probably want to ask is, “Did you use the EX1 at the wedding?”
The answer is yes. And the rolling shutter was very evident with flashes going all over the place. But, rolling shutter aside, the EX1 performed very well.

I know I was the one that asked, “Will the EX1 be leaps and bounds better than the HVX?” I’m now able to report…..yes and no. And it’s not that easy to define. The HVX truly delivers a film like image that made many eyes pop out looking at it, mine included.
The EX1 delivers a crisp, colorful, detailed Discovery Channel HD ‘ish image, which is what I’ve been looking for. You won’t get that with the HVX. But this is why I say the EX1 is not leaps and bounds better than the HVX. The HVX gives you exactly the image you would want from the HVX with all the wonderful features the camera contains. Nothing more. There’s nothing more to expect from it. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do. And that is to be one of the best video tools on the market today. Like I said before, it does everything. It doesn’t do them all better, but it does everything.

Now back to the EX1. It doesn’t do everything but, the things it can do it does…better. It really delivered tack sharp, crisp, colorful HD footage.

I had only the one 8 gig card and a laptop. Lucky for me everything at the wedding happened in ½ hour increments. The ceremony took ½ hour. The photo shoot, ½ hour and so on. I was able to offload the card in between events. I’ll be happy when the other 8 gig card arrives though.

Outside of the wedding environment is where the impressive footage was shot.

So here is a screenshot and photo. I’ll post links to footage and frame shots when I can.

one 8gb card at a wedding! That would have stressed me out! Were you ever muttering to yourself "Skit to the end...please?" How about the speeches?!

LOL...It was close a couple of times. I also had my HV10 fixed at another angle to capture the in-between footage.
