Totally understand. Important stuff. I am excited about the direction you are taking with the Push Effects. They don't call you the Mark Fu Master for nothin!:kali:

You need any help with anything, let me know Mark. I am very teachable on computers and actually have a 'Computer Education' certificate. That is was in Apple IIe's is beside the point! (Wait... I'm OLD... poo.) :dankk2:

Nah, he is good to go, he just has a huge project he is having to finish before he can finish the Push graphics. It is in trade for us using the Red from Blare media, so it is important. It should be done in the next few days and then PUSH time! He's not slacking, he is trying to get that out of the way so he can finish Push.

I have finalized blueprints for the light but heavy-duty tripod for the Hypercrane. Will hopefuly purchase the parts for Hypercrane construction early next week. Then Shane we will see if I owe you a Double-double meal at In-'N-Out (Best burgers ever!). :violent5:

Remember it is what I purchase adding up... Not what I scrounge for free! (Can you feel the set up coming? Hmmmmmm?) :kali: :nads:

I'm salivating already... Double-double, animal style! Woooo Hoooo!:2vrolijk_08:

Actually you never really agreed to bet me so you can be off the hook if I win, but I am not off the hook if I lose!

Sweet! You changed your avatar. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Shane I figured how to swivel the Hypercrane on precision bearings with a shock absorbing hydraulic lift. YAY! :kali:

sfoster
05-28-2008, 05:48 PM
shock absorbing in what way? I worry when I read that because you want precise control over a crane. If you're talking about the dolly part then RIGHT ON!

But if you mean the actual crane, then it will take some convincing!

Gary Sconce
05-28-2008, 10:12 PM
Dolly. It may not work, I measured my tripod and it is too wide for the tube platform. Oh well. BTTDB (Back to the drawing board!) :nads: Hey Shane, check out my post in 'Hardware' for the shoulder mount. I put links to photos of my Hypershoulder mount for others to copy. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I have a shoulder mount for my camera. I built it using the parts I had for the rails, and some padding with electricians tape to hold it on. I cut a piece of conduit for the handles.

Shane owes me a Double-Double burger as I purchased all of the Hypercrane materials I didn't scrounge and it came in UNDER $100. :nads: Ha! :2vrolijk_08:

I am letting him off the hook though. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) I will hopefully start the fabrication of the rig next week. I am going to start a thread on it and show the progress from start to finish with photo links in the Hardware section of this site. :kali: Yay!

I really liked your idea we discussed on Saturday night. That would be a great feature idea. It has a whole lot of possibilities.

I have been editing the property you shared with me diligently. I hope to be done with the editing this week. MAN! It is very well done. :love4: Love it. It is a masterpiece, Matt.

Shane has not gotten back to me so I think I will spend the week on the editing and build the Hypercrane afterwards. I have also been looking at parts ideas for the large solid dolly Mark and I discussed. :engel017:

"...I am glad we have had so much time though!..."

Thanks for starting the project so early and then having such a good organized schedule. It made it so much easier to accomplish great work. I think that is important to doing a good job on a film... Plan well, start early and then keep on schedule. This gives the director much more leeway to add inspirations and assimilate flashes of creativity into the production, and to fix the inevitable problems that arise.

Because of this, we will in the end have been involved in four projects for this fest. :kali:

It is nice that Hyperactive makes this important on its projects. :dankk2::thumbsup:
This is one of the reasons why Hyperactive Studios projects are a great investment for a producer that wants to come in under budget and make absolutely great feature length movies. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

It seems so hard to find investment money for independent features these days. Let alone being able to get distribution and make a buck in the end. Do you mind my asking how many features Hyperactive has gotten funded/distributed? You guys must be further along than I realized. Congrats.

Matt Sconce
06-03-2008, 09:06 AM
:thumbsup:Hyperactive has a slate of movies pursuing funding. Stricken has our actors attached, a significant line producer and several funders interested. No movie is officially "Funded" yet though. Just working up to that point. Until then, we will keep making movies though!:engel017: Like........PUSH! Woohoo!

As things are getting ready for PUSh to finish up, I just have to thank everyone who has been a part of it. I really tried to push the envelop (No pun intended) for myself this fest. I tried a bunch of new things. Red Camera, Action, more dialogue, etc. I hope it comes off the way I dreamed it. Regardless. the crew and people I had helping make it happen were amazing. Thanks guys!

This has already inspired me to try to push the envelope bigger each film, and I am already planning my next big step. I will keep you updated on Push and thanks for staying tuned.

I have a great BTS vid of this scene (on my little hard drive digital camera) from the right side of the shot, Matt. It was amazing from that angle too. It had great blocking and two really good actors. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) I think it is shot on an HVX from a third angle too.

HYPERCRANE UPDATE:

I started the Hypercrane yesterday and have already taken around 40 stills of the procedure. I made it all the way to nearly finishing the gimbal in a few hours. I will post all of it in a "HYPERCRANE BUILD" thread in the Hardware section soon. I still have not spent over $100 on the parts as I am a really good scrounge. Shane is gonna owe me a Double-Double cheesburger and Chocolate shake from In-'N-Out burgers. Wait 'til you see the cool heavy duty aluminum tripods I got my hands on for free. YAY! :kali:

We will have a kickin' rolling, dollyable, portable camera crane for the next Hyperactive Studios project. :2vrolijk_08:

HYPERCRANE UPDATE!

All support stays are complete. The 20ft reach of the rig has solidified nicely. I have completed blueprints for the controls which will be positioned and mounted on an attachable structure that will be situated just behind the tripod gimbal on the left side. The controls should exactly reflect the position of the camera on the head at the end. Vertical control will be on the left and will move forward for down and back for up; horizontal will be left for left and right for right. In front of those will be a position for a monitor. Electronic controls will be accessed by a pig tail at the bottom left of the control area and will allow focus and zoom to be run by a second operator.

The head will allow mounting of the camera and mounting rails exactly in plane with the front of the jib tube, or will allow mounting of the Hypercam low rig for an alternative hanging mounting position. The Hypercam low mount can be angled at various degrees up or down, adding to the possibilities of different shots.

The Hypercrane is actually a large jib. The physics of the rig will allow for 30lb load at the head end and will be countered by approximately 120lbs at the posterior end. Fine balance will be by a large single-tooth screw with a cranking weight forward to back.

Matt, we could of used this in PUSH to get a high shot of Kenn's sweet move near the end of the film.

GEEZ! It looks like the mast of a sailing vessel! Gary, are you a mad scientist? All of the stuff that you're creating sounds amazing. :)

Thanks. Just a poor guy helping out 'cause he doesn't have a lot of money to help his talented Director son. Funny that you say that I am a mad scientist... I am a overly hyperactive old physics teacher. I fit well with the Hyperactive Studios crowd... they are amazing!

The Hypercrane looks big and yet all comes apart easily and folds enough to fit into my subaru car! Really! You are very observant as it IS the mast of a sailing vessel. I have some strengthening still to do on the old loudspeaker tripod and I will be mounting the control pod on the left side. If you look at the rig you see that it is two 10' sections. The dual axis camera mount head will be able to also mount on the first 10' section with smaller stays, and be able to be used indoors in a smaller area. There will be a separate control set of cables that will be used on the short rig. Tear down and construction on set should be done in around 5 minutes by two grips.

When I am done I plan to put a DIY thread together on step by step construction of this contraption, so you can too build your own for around $100 and some good scrounging. :kali::shocked: I already have nearly 130 photos of the construction, step by step. I will be supplying a complete parts list for those who are building the rig in that thread when I am finished.

The capabilities this will give Matt and Mark, who have diabolically creative minds, will sure be nice. Here is another pic:

I am desperately hoping to finish this on time, but I have been known to take several days compressing. (Since I only have a couple days...I may not make it) I will have a very hard time exporting the uncompressed quicktime file I will need for Quicktime Pro to compress to h.264. I have not once been able to render an uncompressed version of the master timeline. It has crashed every time I have attempted this due to size of the RED files (Now Tiff sequences).

I will get the final audio and Graphics on Wednesday and then it will be up in the air until the deadline.

Hypercrane Update: :2vrolijk_08:

The Hypercrane head is going on. I put on the basic head today and included an offset cam to maintain angular force on the camera weight, and also included a small counterbalancing weightset for the head. The camera will be balanced on the head itself and then will be a snap to turn. I designed a more elegant method of control today and am changing the plans to reflect that. Don't let the looming of the camera lens fool you, the radius of the arms on the head are only 12".

Mostly, I am keeping busy and praying for Matt to get the huge footage to compile. This crane is going to be so awesome to use. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Maybe I should sell it when finished for a better computer? Ha. :undecided

I am having great trouble getting my 720x360 compressed h.264 under 50 mb. I have gotten 68, 55, but to get under 50, my kbit rate is having to be 600-700. Won't this kill everything? Shouldn't it be 1000 at least? Ah the trouble!

Edgen
06-10-2008, 05:21 PM
Why don't you just get the dimensions down to 640 wide?

I've found the Quicktime's compression gives the entire film a 'washy' look and destroys all the colors. Anyone else have the same issue? Sorensen Squeeze seems to do a better job using sorensen 3.

I wish there was a 'budget' option in there that you could specify.. I want a video this size, at this compression at these dimensions.. Go figure. That would be too easy.

I agree... if you do not get your film entered into the fest just because you can't compress the film, I'm going to take that glyde cam of yours and beat you over the head after Mark Harris beats you with your red camera.

Yeah, we had issues with the QT Export washing out colors. Joe worked it out, and it was an FCP thing. BUt he had to tweak some things in the output to get it to look right.

I had these troubles before coming out of a NLE but I have never had the washing out problem with Quicktime pro exports. I am still testing compression. What do all you compression gurus do for kickin sound that doesn't take up 12 mb of the total? If I am at 24khz I can get a decent sized compression (48mb) but if I bump the audio to 48khz glory, My file size goes to 62 mb. Is there an audio codec that is kickin but smaller?

Brandon Rice
06-10-2008, 11:12 PM
I use AAC audio 96khz. And usually get really good audio, small file size.

700kb/sec in H264 isn't horrible actually...

Try decreasing screen size, and keep the same kb/sec.

Matt, why don't you offload some of that insane rendering to a render farm? We're using TitanRENDER (http://www.rendertitan.com) and have been really happy. They're cheap and they have a huge pipe so that if you've got a decent connection you're all set. They've got a huge bank of 64-bit 8-cores that will shred anything you can send 'em.

I'd hate to see you miss the festival deadline simply because of a render delay.

Matt quick question, I just noticed you're working in Premiere but I was curious how you managed the audio?
I work on 2.0 and not being able to export the cuts has always been a problem for me. How did you work around it? Or did you just do everything within premiere?

The short answer...kept good records, and had a kickin sound guy.

The long answer: I cut in After Effects CS3 (Due to the fact I had tiffs sequences completely rendered that were to high in bit rate for premiere...I should have exported PSD or something) I kept the exact take of the shots I cut, and then with my sound guy...Mike Aro, I told him what take it was and he went and found the take (recorded into his laptop studio on set) and synched them into an audio track.

You know how it is. You never really finish a film...just abandon it. I could most likely tweak stuff in the film until the cows come home, but that is not doable in the real world. I am very excited about the end product. It did what I hoped it would (stretched me as a filmmaker and also kicks butt.) I have never pulled something off like this before. Hypercrane Update! I have the weights on the back and am working on balancing the non-loaded rig. I have the Y and X axes on the head and have mounted the alternative position of the Hypercam angleable low rig on the head. I am now working on the camera mount that will go over the stabilized wheel at the end of the head. It has to be raised up 2.5" so the Hypercam low rig arm will also fit there for turning shots. After that I work backwards toward the control position that will be to the left of the gimbal. I am toying with trussing the main 10' section to add strength to the rig and allow no need for suspension support on the future short rig. I have struts to add to the main tripod to solidify it. The aluminum central shaft on it vibrates slightly as the main weights pendulum. That has to go. I will be using pin-attached jawslide clamps on the struts that will extend from the gimbal cylinder to the adjustable wheels that have yet to be made. This secondary triangulation will solidify the main tripod nicely.

yeah Matt did the all nighter. I did the SLEEP 2 hours a night thing for the last week. I left at 3:30am and drove the hour home. Saturday morning after a few hours sleep Matt called me and asked for help with a couple of tweaks. I went down the hill and we fiddled for a bit and polished off a few spots and I think we have a real nice short.

I of course would've preferred to have more space to put in some of the VFX that I wanted. As it stands we had to simplify some parts, but I think it will work. I am now starting to play the "I should've done it this way or if I just would've taken some time to add a little of this" You know the story, hindsight is 20/20.

The funny thing is... 3:30 am on Saturday and I just couldn't proces information and get it to work right... I got a couple hours of sleep and then when I came back the next morning to fix the few loose ends, it was a snap. SLEEP... GOOD!

The funny thing is... 3:30 am on Saturday and I just couldn't proces information and get it to work right... I got a couple hours of sleep and then when I came back the next morning to fix the few loose ends, it was a snap. SLEEP... GOOD!

I just saw the short tonight Mark. Your VFX is OUTSTANDING! I was awed by the detail you added in such a short amount of time. Wow! I didn't even see the final version. Matt wrote an exciting story, HIS DIRECTING WAS WONDERFUL, acting was very good, and the editing was sharp and snappy. It was really nice to see the whole thing come together.

But, that VFX was simply amazing. Your detail so so good people are going to have to watch it over and over, and only then, they might see it all. WooooooHoooooooo!

I stopped it and watched it frame by frame just to get it all in...

(I even have to admit, my stabilized camera shots were OK too.) :D

The funny thing is that you can actually buy that at In 'N Out. They will make any burger you want if you pay for it. I love those guys. Every franchise is still owned by one little family and they give a lot of money to help others less fortunate than them each year. Some of the best burgers in the world.

I'm not sure the Hypercrane could even lift that burger though! Think of the 'grams' of fat... More like pounds of fat! (Your heart:violent5: Cholesterol)

Yeah, you head east and you lose a few perks. There are good places back there that we don't have so it all equals out.

I remember riding to In 'N Out in the back window of my mom and dad's 1959 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. There were no seat belt laws back then and I could ride back there all I wanted. I even ate my burger up there. We went to one of the first In 'N Outs on Arrow Hwy in Covina, Ca. I think a burger was less than 25cents. Man, I AM old. :undecided

Thanks! I hope others feel the same. :engel017: I have figured out the secret to successful indie filmmaking...well...one of the secrets... It is PREPARATION. I spent a lot of time planning this shoot, and everything around it. I traded and bartered some of my film stuff to get enough money to rent a lens for the RED, and traded other things to get the steadicam for the shooting period. I networked with friends who own the RED and made sure I surrounded myself with great people, like Mark Aro, Troy Ruff, and my dad Gary Sconce. When it came time to make it, it was a smooth process. I needed to plan better for post, but now that I understand the RED workflow, it will be easier next time.

I am so excited for people to see the results of the hard work, blood, sweat and tears that went into this. It is a very rewarding experience to finish a film. Definitely worth the journey.

It is interesting watching each film appear as approved one by one on the status list. I feel the tension for the poor people still waiting. They are almost all approved now so I would expexct the viewing to be in the next couple of days.

An interesting and horrifying twist here on the home front. The city board members are trying to defund our Fresno City Film Comission. the vote is today and a ton of filmmakers are showing up to protest it and state reasons why it should not be done. It would be devastating if that vote passes. The vote is at 2:00pm PST.

It appears they may defund the Fresno City Film Comission despite all of us telling them what is happening in the industry and why it will bring Fresno money in the future. They have some issue with Allen Autry (Our Mayor) or something like that. I just hope they do not defund it as all of our recent filmmaking activity was made possible by that comission.:banned:

Mark Aro, myself and around 12 other directors, producers and film people spoke before the Fresno City Council today in front of TV cameras and a packed standing-room-only house. We kindly told them the wonderful work that the Fresno Film Commission has done to facilitate movie making in the Fresno area. We shared the importance of patience in the process, as training and equiping talented workers in the field of making movies is a gradual process. I personally shared with them that we at Hyperactive and Aftershock studios have shot four movies in the Fresno area in the last year. We have spent thousands of dollars in goods and services in the town and have only been a small example of what could happen on a large scale if the city becomes really desireous of a film industry and supports that goal in the area. We shared other stories of cities the size of Fresno that have established film industries and what that partnership has done to provide literally millions of dollars in higher revenues to those cities.

When I talked money, I noticed that they were all intently listening. Hopefully they didn't 'can' the position of film commission. It was ironic that they were going to stop funding the film commission but wanted to spend more money on a few portable bleachers for only one city park than his entire yearly salary. I have to talk to Mark Aro and see what ended up happening as I had to go early and help Matt with something. It was nice to see all who showed up to represent us and our industry there today in Fresno. Well done to all. :love4:

Yep, on a commercial shoot, Matt laughed at a cow and it peed violently. The wind caught the pee and whipped it into his mouth. I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of The Matrix just a tad but I wasn't distracted by it. Might just be me anyway.

Loved the parking garage scene. Very cool.
Fit the theme quite well.

I'll post more thoughts later.

Amazing!

SPOLIERS

I loved it when the "bad guy" threw the gun at Enoch and he kicked it back...That is what won it over for me! (not that I didn't like it) but that is what sealed it as a great action flick. Thats what I was getting from the Music anyways, and I thought to myself, ok, sounds Action-y wheres the action...then BAM! TAKE THAT BAD GUY!

All in all Great work guys! there was a moment before he pushed the button that was a bit CGI-y to me...but still awesome none the less!

I'll echo the earlier posts that kicking the gun back was quiet awesome.

SPOILER

The guy who walks in and kills both of them kinda bothered me as he didn't really show any recoil in addition to the gun sound FX not sounding very matched to the environment. Took me out of the film a bit. The blue and yellow lighting in the outdoor scene was really cool.

Great work.

The film definitely looked professional. That "hypercam" shot (I think) looked fantastic.

Story was a little iffy for me. It felt like it had the possibility to be something original but nothing was explained very much.

Good work. Can't wait until your team's next short.

*SPOILERS*

Your action sequences were amazing, but I felt the couple sequences could have been reworked to better effect. I would have liked to have seen some more compelling moment of intimacy between the two characters to make me care whether she lived or died too. He obviously cares a lot, but as the viewer I don't really. Really great action though, that is obviously your strong suit. With a better script I think you could really do something exceptional.

My first real review:

First shot, contrasting colors (blue vs orange) Awesome.

The dialogue throughout sounds great. Kudos to the sound guy or gal.

I didn't really buy the performance from the male lead (enoch)

The bad guy busting in and expressionlessly killing everyone is fu#king awesome. Bad ass, really.

Gun sounds in the parking ramp I didn't like so much. Sounded fake.

Steadicam=rules.

The chucking the gun kick thing blew me away. I was like hell yeah, that dude's all that and a bag of chips.

Didn't like the CGI doors. Sorry. Worst part of the story for me.

When Enoch pushes the button I actually said out loud "hell yeah"

I think there should be a gun sound at the end when Enoch kills the baddy, Just me though.

Female lead was great.

Score rocked.

overall very impressive.

thanks,

Alright, up to PUSH. Been looking forward to this puppy. Lets see what she has to offer.

Rolling and reviewing:

I liked the light scheme of the first shot. The contrast was nice. Now to see where that yellow and blue come into play later. I like the score so far. And very nice rack focus around 1:15. Nailed it.

And again very nice shot then the company came in. I like the infinite white you got going to. Very nice. Everything is always marked with an 'x'. haha.

Very interesting concept thus far, just entered the third minute. I love the location you have. Entering the park. Very nice running shot. And the composite was well done with the guns firing. YES! 4:00 loved the move there. The equals so kickass. Sound design was good. But the CGI door part brought the whole production down in my opinion. I wish that wasn't there. And the press of button was kinda lame.

But the ending was pretty good. The fall was very realistic. And it was good.

I actually really enjoyed the film. What is this button? Am I sensing a sequel?

Great film mate.

I always have admired the joy you have for film making; it is contagious. the action sequence in the garage is where the film really shines. Nice work with the shoot out and the gun kick is really well executed.

The story was a bit convoluted at times. There is no sense of where he goes once he receives the head shot or who the person is that he will meet 5 years down the line. I also presume he already knows what the button is because that is what the antagonist is looking to steal from him, yet it already exists, the bad guys have it and he must get to it to push it to save his wife?

I felt the pacing could have bee a little quicker, particularly the shots of him against the wall. I was craving quicker cuts to match the tone of the music and maybe a little hand held to give it more urgency. Also, better establishing the time dynamic earlier would give us a sense of urgency in these beginning moments. It seems like a lost opportunity since we don't realize he is up against time until it is explained half way through.

The VFX's were nicely used in the film and it is great to see another film maker use of the Red. Congrats on getting the film done for the fest.

I knew this one was going to be good right from the get-go. The gun kick...well...kicks ass! (there's no other way to put it) Sound & Score was top-notch, as was the acting.

Wait, I'm confused.

He travels forward into the future when he's about to be shot? Wouldn't he be dead then? Because being whisked away to the future just before dying would mean in the future your dead.

Is there something I'm missing?

I agree this film Rocks, and Gary (not Sconce) said it was brilliant! I wouldn't say sequel, I would say feature film. You needed another 84 minutes to tell the rest of the story!!! AND of course to have some more killer action scenes! Gary (not Sconce) also said it would be a great spoiler trailer. While the CG could have used a bit more work, for the amount of time you were working on the CG, it looks awesome. It's TIME to start writing the feature script!!!

My take on it may not be the same as Matt's. Before Enoch is killed he is whisked away from his time line and into a 'white room' created by the device he is going to create. The room is actually created in the future but it is a static bubble in time that protects Enoch from dying. Since he was taken off the linear line in time, he was stopped from dying. For Enoch, his timeline is continuing and obviously he didn't get killed by the hit man. His future friend, the man in the white room, only gives Enoch the information that will allow him to live, save his wife, and then create the machine that is represented by the button. The white room man can only affect the future so much, which is why he is nebulous in his answers.

Quantum Mechanics says that there are an infinite number of alternate realities. In what is a massively cool paradox, Matt Sconce wrote a 'necessary time loop' into his script where the future interacts back with the past to save itself.

conrad_johnson
06-20-2008, 09:31 AM
That's full of contradictions.

"Before Enoch is killed" Implies that Enoch will die.

"he was stopped from dying" Same thing.

"obviously he didn't get killed by the hit man" Enoch did not die.

"only gives Enoch the information that will allow him to live" Enoch dies.

I'm more confused than before. Maybe I should stop thinking about this. :)

That is EXACTLY it. The white room is a static timeless (Outside of time room) built by Enoch's company in the future. Once pulled into that room, he has the ability to change things if he can press the button. He only has until midnight and then the effects of the timeless room and static nature wear off. When that happens...Enoch would be dead in the future due to the shooting in the past.

Now, you can get into Paradoxes, which are tricky. How can Enoch have a company in the future when he was shot in the past. How can the man in white exist if Enoch was shot in the past. But you could also argue that Enoch was never shot in the past because he was pulled out of time and changed the past, thus never having the shooting occur. You could Argue that the white room was just part of Enochs life and that after that event he killed the majority of the company and that they were trying to stop him in the garage to change the past as well. Complicated but fun. I think PUSH plays nice with the paradox idea and allows a pretty viable and exciting take on a neccessary time loop. It does require you to fill in some blanks, but I like it when everything is not just out in the open. If you look at the clues in the dialogue, I think the story can be pieced together. I hope you all like the movie. :engel017:

Wonderful job Matt and team. I am a big fan of the Matrix and therefore loved the feel of your piece as resonating in that regard. Anytime you have dudes with guns in black suits and ties ... I'm IN. I think it was BOSINDY who mentioned the joyful spirit inherent in your films and I want to second that observation. It is obvious how much fun you are all having and that makes all the difference in the world as it is clear how much a "labor of love" your project is.

I think Mark did a great job too. The film rocks.

Best of all, I got to see yours before I saw the guy in the white room show up in The Impossible Race! He's great in your film! Then to see him behind the table in the Impossible Race made me spit out my beer from laughing.

I thought the movie looked great and, more importantly to me, sounded great. I could quibble about some very minor things, but they would be exactly that… minor.

On second viewing, I really liked the sound of the guns during the big shooting scene. The reverberation was perfect for the location. I also like that he kept Enoch breathing heavy during the "chase" scene. It's stuff like that that really makes a film for me. Mike did a great job with the mix as well. My only complaint is that he used the same defribrillator sound that I used in one of my shorts. :-)

I wasn't fond of the first half very much. The acting was very stilted and sometimes a bit over-the-top (maybe you were going for that?). But WOW, that last action scene was wicked! I must say, that gun kick was priceless and made the film for me. I think the CGI needs to be tightened up overall, but of course you were limited with time and I'm sure you'll tighten it up after the fest.

Otherwise, an enjoyable film, even if I was confused what was really going on. But that last action scene made up for it all.

Great work!

that part when he kicks the gun back at him looks like it was perfectly exposed at 320 asa with plenty of lighting, not underexposed at 640 with every available watt and car headlight in a mile radius pointing at it. amazing what you can pull from 120 fps at night underexposed and still look less grainy than a 250 film stock.

everything else was great - but I'll talk about that more later.

loved the tracking shots of the running in the parking lot. The kick was very cool. I didnt really understand HOW the button worked or WHY but I guess it was enough to know that he needed to PUSH IT.

I wondered why you chose to have a ceiling fan in the house shot... it was an angle that wasnt very flattering for his wife? Everything else seemed so much larger than life and those shots seemed a little ordinary.

All in all a very entertaining experience

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I loved the framing in that shot and had kept it all the way from the storyboards. The drifting steam from the mug, the swirling fan and the couple on the right, with Enoch and his height angling the line down into the scene.

Not correct. The CGI didn't "suck". It was wonderful. It wasn't as polished as you wanted because you are a man of your word and worked hard to help some friends with VFX for their movie company so they could make money to eat, pay rent, etc.

You gave over three weeks of your hard work and spare time so those friends could be helped on their commercial project. That took three weeks of your time away from PUSH and NETHERBORN.

The fact that you postponed your dreams of NETHERBORN temporarily, and then had less than two weeks to do the VFX on PUSH, for the service of others is admirable, and shows what a high quality person, DP, AD, VFX junkie, and special effects guru you are!

So, for a guy just getting the rough for slightly less than two weeks, working his day job, loving his family, driving two hours a day commuting to that day job, AND shooting a soon to be released FANTASTIC SHORT, NETHERBORN at the same time...

YOU DID GREAT!!! :kali:

Sweet! I just finished watching all the movies, went through and made my top ten list. There were some great films this time around!

Yes, also this has the quality of hollywood film production. The film works on each leval very well. I enjoyed it a lot of and love really the "Matrix" scene in the underground car park. Compliments!

Just saw one I really liked... put it into my "Great Movies" folder. Push is there too... and not just because I worked on it.
