Filming with your HVX200 HD onto P2 cards generates MXF files. In order to use the footage with Premiere or Vegas you need to convert these files to AVI or Quicktime.
I am posting this to share the hoops through which I had to jump in order to achieve my goal.
First, to get you computer to recognize the P2 cards:
In the camera menu, go to "OTHER FUNCTIONS" and under "PC MODE" choose "USB DEVICE"
At the back of the camera, press the mode button once to get in MCR/VCR mode then press it again and hold for 2 seconds to go to PC/DUB modeA good version of Windows should recognize the P2 cards and show something like drive F:\ and drive G:\ (or whatever letter the cards got assigned). If it does not work, try installing the CDs that came with the camera or look for the latest driver on the internet ( http://panasonic.sixbullets.net has them ). You will then find your MXF video files in the folder F:\CONTENTS\VIDEO.
I tried these 2 softwares to convert the MXF files to AVI:
Raylight (http://dvfilm.com/raylight/index.htm) has a demo that puts a watermark in your footage but it works right away.
Aspect HD (http://www.cineform.com/products/Downloads/Downloads.htm) has a 15 days fully working demo. To use Aspect HD, you need to install Panasonic's P2 Viewer (https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/p2v_dl_e.htm) first (choose DVCPRO)
That's it, I hope it helps.
