I would like to know if anyone has used the audio inputs on the HVX 200 camera?
If you boomed straight in to the XLR's is the audio good quality. I know I should be using a field recorder can't afford one at this time and would like to start shooting some secondary scenes. Also can any one tell me what the procedure is for sending time code from camera to field recorder. and can they sync?

The HVX has great audio for a $5,000 camcorder. Many people record directly into it without using a mixer.

You can't get timecode out of the camera into a field recorder. There is no TC OUT jack.

in 2006 we shot a feature film called The Rapture, we used 2 hvx200 which I felt in-love with it, we connected first to mixers due to a lot of wire work stunt and such where cables were an issue, then later, for other shots, we just plug it in directly, it was easy, simple and fast.. Unfortunately we were shooting in a tight schedule with a lot of background noise (truck, etc), we ultimately had to ADR everything.

Now I had 3 hvx and loving every minute and learning with them as much as we can, we also are plugging directly into the camera as before, and getting great sound.
