Ted,

If you're still looking for some honest feedback on your script, I'd be willing to read it and give you my impressions and suggestions. Either way, I wish you success with your project.

Hey Norm, thanks for dropping in.

........

Update on progress.....

There has be zero progress!

I do intend to make this film and participate... I am just very preoccupied with starting up a new business. I am taking this new business very serious. Business Plan, Business Mentors...

I will hopefully be able to set this aside and work on The Moiré Effect very soon.

Hope all is well!

Okay, okay... I am fired up!

I have finished all the crap that was holding me down. I have three more days of performing and then nothing until June 1st. So, let's make a movie!!!

I really do like this script and look forward to shooting this. As usual, I will be focusing on some new skills and some new toys.

I will offer updates as they unfold. I am just glad to be back on this project!

.....................

In other news.... I drove down to DC and picked up my latest toy.... a 12' JonyJib! This puppy has it all! Digital Pan/Tilt head, remote focus and zoom (made for ENG cams but I am going to see if I can rig the focus unit for my camera. It is a remote geared wheel). This jib came with weights, tripod, rear control center, lcd monitor... pretty crazy deal. I got it all for $1600! Sweet.

http://tedarabian.com/lightwritepictures/jib2.jpghttp://tedarabian.com/lightwritepictures/Jib1.jpghttp://tedarabian.com/lightwritepictures/jib3.jpg

(These photos are from the ad.)

Also, while I was at the studio (in DC) picking up the jib, the guy was trying to get me to take a bunch of gear. I just couldn't and wasn't interested in most. BUT, I did take him up on two 19" Sony High Resolution production monitors for $200. I am totally stoked to finally have a real production monitor!!! They are old but they are amazing!

..........

Looking forward to getting caught up on everyone's threads.

Looking forward to getting to work on this thread!!!

cheers!

Quick update.....

Holding auditions soon. Probably Monday and Tuesday. I have 24 (and counting) people that have responded to my listing. Pretty cool. Looks like I should be able to cast from this list (as long as they can act!) Still looking for a President of the United States. Boy... that is a look that not everyone has.

Secondly... I just scored some c-stands!!! I have been looking a long time. I almost went with a 4 pack of Avengers BUT then I found an ebay ad and scored!!!

I have 6 40" c-stands on the way! Each complete with grip head and extension arm. No more using ladders to hold my lights!!!

To these!

I bet you still use ladders because you will use the c stands for something else. :)

When are your shooting dates?

Ladders are so great! I've also used one for my set :D

Ted Arabian

Yeah... Ladders are great. I am sure that I will always have a place on the set for a ladder! (but I am SOOOOOOO excited to have real c-stands!!!)

Shoot dates are still being finalized. I hope to announce them very soon.

D'oh!

You know.... I thought about posting a comment that if anyone was in the DC area to let me know. BUT then my trip turned into a 1 day bit. I drove down through the night (missing all of the traffic), arrived in DC for breakfast, picked up my gear, played at the monuments, took my wife to Baltimore for crabcakes and drove back through the night... missing all of the traffic! Great trip!

Sorry I didn't know that you were there. I would have totally looked you up.

Charlie Anderson

It's okay man, I've been friggin busy as poo with workign on 2 features back to back (and I literally mean that, one wrapped on the 29th at 10am and I was on set on the other one by 11:30am). Next time though, you better give me a call! Where in Baltimore did you guys go? As that's my hometown :) I live like 15 minutes from the inner harbor.

I quit my job and am doing the film thing full time now for my company, so I understand the whole busy with business work. What's your business involve?

Ted Arabian
05-11-2008, 07:25 AM
Hey Charlie, the restaurant was called "Olive Grove." It is a very nice and affordable Italian place with GREAT crabcakes! The place is just down the street from G&M's (sp?).

Good for you on the full time gig. I hope that continues to pan out.

My business has been an ever-changing experiment of making money doing what I like to do. I haven't worked "for the man" since 1991... just making it happen doing what I love. Designing, building, creating...

I am changing gears to something more based with my video camera. I will be offer more info on that soon enough. I am still creating this new business venture and don't want to spill the beans until I am actually doing it!

Vegas has had that problem since it came out. I tried using it a few times when they updated each time and found that same problem each time. I will probably never even say the word vegas again in editing terms.

Ted Arabian

Hey Aram, I am working on the shoot schedule. I would love to have you on the set as my DP.

Beat Takeshi
05-11-2008, 07:41 PM
So Ted, if I'm done on my project I will come out but I have a really big editing job also coming up that will stick me in front of a brand new computer for 6 weeks that also may keep me from making it out there. I will let you know whats the schedule on that when I get everything next week.

UPDATE......................

LOCATION IS LOCKED!!! (one of my locations is the office building that Hillary Clinton used as her HQ while in NH. You know the one where the guy came in with a "bomb" taped to his chest and drew national media attention... I will be shooting in that space! Just a little trivia there!)

AUDITIONS ARE LOCKED!!! I will be holding them at Bunker Hill Community College. (Jim, an email is coming to you right after this!)

CAMERA ASSISTANT IS LOCKED!!! I have my steady helper (Arik Blanchard) back for a second shoot!

STUNT COORDINATOR... almost locked! Mark Bedell has agreed to come on my shoot for one day. I am very excited about this! Here is his IMDB... (I've never been able to say THAT before!) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0066002/

Things are falling into place.

Mark Johnson
05-14-2008, 02:30 PM
Hey Ted, that is such great news. Man, Mark Bedell has a great resume. I see he does firearms, practical special effects as well as stunts. His representation is out of California. Does he live out there and how did you hook up with him?

Ted Arabian
05-14-2008, 07:50 PM
Hey Mark, yeah... I am pretty freaking excited to have a stunt coordinator! And this guy has a LOT of toys. Crash mats to squibs and more. Even offered to get hit by a car for me. I told him... maybe next time! (and I DO plan on there being a next time with this guy!)

He lives in Saco, Maine with his expecting wife.

I will be posting more about him soon. Needless to say, I am very excited about this.

..........................

Auditioned in Boston today. Going back tomorrow for another round. I had a good day. Bosindy sat in with me. We had a good time.

More later.....

How about some pix of those locations Ted!

Ted Arabian
05-15-2008, 09:36 AM
Great idea! The only pix I have right now are on my cell phone but I'll go back and shoot with my DSLR.

BUT, don't expect much. The places are empty store fronts on Main Street! It is going to be a hoot to blackout the windows and turn them into sets! As you may imagine... the little town of Rochester, NH is buzzing with excitement! LOL!

Dang, Mike and I are shooting the first episode of this the 29th-31st...
http://www.anyonebutmeseries.com/

This is where I met one of my leads in Mordere.
Can you do anything during the week the first week of June?

Ted Arabian
05-17-2008, 06:26 AM
I seriously wish I could. I'd definitely be there if it were possible! :)

NICE mic! What'd you pay for it?

I paid $320 for the whole thing including paypal fees and express shipping!

- Oktava MK012 (black) with hypercardioid capsule in box
- Baby Ball Gag
- Windjammer
- shockmount

DennisP was awesome to work with.

The funny thing was that I had all of those items in my shopping cart just that morning at The Sound Room (except for the shockmount, I have a K-Tek that I will use). But the price was... high! So I held off.

And then just before going to bed, I checked into DVXUSER (of course!) and took a peek at the marketplace. Saw the newly listed mic and bought it (just in time, too! Dennis had PMs coming in right after mine!)

So... I am pretty excited.

AND, I will be putting my Sennheiser ME66/K6 up for sale if anyone wants it!!!

...........................

Aram.... that is too bad. I am not set in stone on those dates but I really can't go into June. I have to build a set in June. Do you think that you have any days before that?

I am not holding my breath. :)

Hey Ted, that sounds like a great deal, congratulations!

I hope your project comes along nicely! Can't wait to see it :)

Ted Arabian
05-17-2008, 07:09 AM
Thanks Simon! Considering that the mic itself is $219 (for dvxusers). And anyone who has priced out Rycote gear.... well.... let's say I didn't even my wife a chance to stop me from buying it! :) (thanks honey!)

As for the project.... I am very excited. Things are starting to shape up.

I just spent a great deal of time in Portland, Maine location scouting. I actually found a great location! Not a lot of traffic (cars or foot), on an end street in downtown around buildings that are perfect looking (my location is Washington DC). The funny thing is, the location is City Hall and the Police Station! I went and talked to the Police and it seems like it will not be an issue to shoot there.

Now, I just have to figure out HOW TO SHOOT THIS!!!

Farruh as ALEX MONREAU

Mark Johnson

Ted, ... great pic. Does he just go by the one name? Any details on him you can share?

Ted Arabian
05-17-2008, 03:10 PM
He does have a last name. I couldn't even begin to spell it much less pronounce it. And all of his info only uses his first name, so I am good with that. (And if you are going to go with one name, make it a good one... like FARRUH! Love it!)

Farruh is from up here in cow country and is a filmmaker himself. I am hoping that a new relationship has begun. Filmmakers seem so few and far between in this area.

And I have invited Farruh to the boards... hopefully we will see him make an appearance here.

Woo Hoo!!!!

I just received thumbs up from SAG for a SAG Short FIlm contract!!!

I had no intention of going SAG but I had this one guy show up and he was great for the role of the President of the United States! But he was SAG!

Well, I immediately contacted SAG and got the ball rolling. And now I've just been given the necessary Exhibit G forms with a green light!!!

Very happy.

Future reference.... I will always consider getting this SAG contract from day one. I had no idea that I could even use SAG actors but with the gracious amendments to their structure for low budget Indie films, I can! But the paper work MUST be done several days to weeks in advance of the shoot. I was able to do some sweet-talk (or was it just playing dumb!) and got this paperwork down in a hurry!

Awesome!!! I am very excited!

Absolutely! I learn so much each time I shoot. I always put a few "targets" to shoot for on the menu. This time I am going for that all elusive "FILM LOOK!" My stuff always feel more like a video.

I know that a lot of it is in the lighting. Some of it is with the camera settings. MUCH of it is the operator!!!

I think I could bring some guys for a weekend with an adapter for ya. Can't any of those east coast guys get you one for your shoot? Tell em to get moving and collaborate! :2vrolijk_08:

Ted Arabian

Man, that would be nice.

I tried to get Aram on my shoot with his Brevis but he's busy.

And I don't know anyone else in the area with an adapter! (I need to talk Bosindy into buying one!)

......

Good luck your attempt to beat your dad at fatherhood! :) Pretty awesome for you.

Man, I wish that I could!!!

I have to build a set for an outdoor festival starting on June 2.

Are you totally booked on May 31? I just scheduled a huge shooting day for that Saturday

I know that you're book.... but if something changes! :)

Beat Takeshi
05-21-2008, 08:01 PM
Yeah, sorry. Its been booked for months now. They are putting a lot of work into that show and this shoot is the maiden voyage. I will definitely let you know if something changes.

Ted Arabian
05-22-2008, 04:46 AM
No, Man.... nothing to apologize for! Work is work and the timing of this shoot just happens to work out like this.

One of these days though.... one of these days, we'll have an Aram/Arabian production. Heck, maybe even a AAA production (Aram/Arrik/Arabain)!!!

How exactly did he come into possession of an Oscar?

Ted Arabian
05-23-2008, 06:12 AM
You know, I was just going through his IMDB trying to remember.

I'll be honest... the Oscar is for a project that he worked on and not for his acting per se.

But, he does own it!

I will ask him to share the story with me again and report back.

In the meantime, here is a link to his IMDB resume.. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2555012/resume

Thanks guys! Yeah, I learned that you can't even begin to THINK about making a good film if you start off with so-so actors.

Like that first film I made.... I.D. what has that guy done since? NOTHING!

You have to start off with quality ingredients.

Then of course, you have to know how to bake the damn cake!

.......................

Well, my wife and I arrived to LA and rushed right to the set.

What a great day! A fabulous day!

I met many dvxusers today that I have been wanting to meet.... Barry, Hudson, Jack, Matt G., Kholi, Geoff, Luis, MattyG, Arrik, Dudley... who am I missing.

And I got to be reunited with many dvxusers that are life-long friends.... Mark, Tim, Blaine, Kyle, Bullis, and my home-boy, Jim.

I also met and worked with the great and TALENTED Levie Isaac, the productions DP and I enjoyed the work of some pretty incredible actors.

I will not soon forget today. It was really a great and memorable day.

I wish that I could share more but this production is pretty much under lock and key. Let me just say that Mark and Tim certainly have a treat for us all here.

I am so proud to be a member of this community. Today was one of those small treasures.

I hope that we all can find moments like this in our lives.

Good Night and Happy Shooting!

Hey Mike, I loved meeting and working with you this past weekend. Total blast. You, Luis and I need to grip again. That was fun!

Yeah, I have a set of Canon FD primes that I picked up for the Ed35 that I had. When I can afford to pick up Nikon Primes, I will. (I have both the Nikon and Canon FD mount, so I can swap around in the meantime)

Thanks for the compliments on my wife. She is cool. And she had a great time on the set with all of us.

I'll take a look at her pictures soon and post.

Right now... I am desperately trying to get caught up on thing. I came home to find that my DSL modem and Airport Extreme died! Crazy. I unplugged them when I left of CA and plugged them in when I got home. Both dead. No power at all. I don't get it! And now I have just wasted 2 days trying to get them working. (which I didn't... I had to replace them!)

So...... I am now back online and have a bizilliion emails to tend to! (plus, I have to play with my LEX!)

My c-stands arrived. I broke out my flags and scrims. I am so excited to CONTROL LIGHT!!!

Off and running.

Hey brothers! Thanks once again. The support here is awesome.

Okay.... so you don't trouble your heads trying to figure what the hell is going on with me....

My wife and I are getting divorced.

This is particularly hard since neither one of us saw this coming. But I have been unhappy for a quite awhile now and I think that a large part of that unhappiness is being married.

I do love my wife so much. She is the kindest and most honest person that I know. She is very special and has been very loving to me for our entire 12 1/2 year relationship. And this is what makes this so terribly hard.

My intentions are to finish a job here in NH (June 26 or so) and then drive across the country to LA. I am intending to visit my parents in Texas for a bit and to visit my brother in NoCal for a bit before heading into LALA-Land.

I hope to drop in and meet several dvxusers along the way.

Wow. You guys are too much. Geez.... I never expected such rewarding kindness on a website.

It is so funny... I never (EVER!) thought that I would be an online chatter. I am from the "older" generation... before texting, before the computer! But I have become an online chatter here. And I tell everyone that being on dvxuser is like being in the community area of a filmmaker's fraternity. I just love it here and the members that make this place what it is. It really is an incredible community and, (to me), an incredible notion that I would be communicating electronically to friends during this break-up. (Hell... the last time I broke up with someone, the PC was just finding it's way out of the office (and into our homes) and the mac classic with it's 9" screen was to die for!)

Anyway, the sentiments and support are so completely helpful. Thank you.

As for me....

Well, I went to the gym, shaved my face into a new configuration... (I'll try to post my new "face")... had an awesome workout... (haven't done weights in years)... and have cracked open a bottle of red wine as I sit in my home-on-wheels (30' RV) in the comfort of Wal-Mart. (RV sites are ridiculous!!! Over $700 a month to park my rig!!! Hell, my mortgage was way less than that!!! Plus, at Wal-Mart, I am parked up along some trees and actually have more privacy than at an RV park)

So... I am doing well at the moment. My wife and I sat down and talked about money and property... and we talked about the future.

Today started rough (seems to be one-day-on / one-day-off cycle right now)... but today got immensely better after I met with my wife. It really helps that we don't hate each other. And as ZaZaCast mention, it really helps that we don't have children involved.

Thanks again. Cheers! Bottoms up! Happy Shooting and All That Jazz!

I am making some plans to get together with Aram and Leslie before I leave. I wanted to hang out with you again. I guess you are going to have to come BACK to California.

And hell yeah! I want to shoot with you! We'll have to see how things lie... maybe you can get back to CA or perhaps I can find myself in a position where I can visit NYC down the road.

I am really bummed that you aren't in town. I really wanted to see you again. I had a blast working with you in CA. Awesome time! We were the Three Amigos there!

That's where things stand right now.

Thanks again for the phone calls, PMs and posts.

You guys are great.

Dustin... there is NO WAY you will find room to stow away in my RV!!!

As it is, I am ripping out my couch (never needed that anyway) and building a tool crib for all of my carpentry gear. And I am ripping out the dining area (don't need that either!) and building a lighting crib.

Add to that all of my camera gear, my Honda Civic in tow, clothing... I am going to be packed!!!

But feel free to hop in your car and follow me!

Thanks for the posts.

Yeah... been MIA on the boards... Working 24/7 to get a Summer festival up and taking care of life.

Things are great but they are tough at times. It is a weird thing to leave someone you've been with for over 12 years.

I have much to share and will do so when I can. Right now I have until tomorrow to have this fest up and running and then I have 2 Obama gigs! (sweet!!! I've been missing my Obama-bucks!)

Talk to you soon.

Oh! I have yet to start watching films ( :crybaby: ) Too freakin' busy!!!

But I am looking forward to seeing them. I hope everyone is having a blast!

Well Hello! WTF??? What's been going on with you TED!!! Sheesh!

...............

Hey Guys,

Listen... First I apologize. I haven't seen a fricken single film.

I hope that you can understand that it has been a bit out of my control as I am using a broadband card for my wireless while living in the RV. It has a max of 5GB activity. I am waiting to get to FREE fast internet (at my old home) to download ALL of the films.

(I know that I missed on everything. Including voting. I hope everyone was satisfied with their work and the results... whatever they may be.)

ALSO, I've had not time to focus on filmmaking. And when I do, it draws memories that I just don't need right now. (my wife was supportive in every thing that I did with filmmaking... it pains me to think of her if I can help it. So I don't think about filmmaking right now.)

I have been focusing on Life and how wonderful it is.

And I just bought my first Harley-Davidson!!! Sitting right outside my rig.

1999 XL1200 Custom Sportster. Beautiful paint and chrome. AWESOME SOUND!!! OMG, I am one of those obnoxious guys on a Harley!!! AND I LOVE IT!

I have an awesome trailer that I just bought to tow my bike in. I bought something large enough to use as my "garage." (Right now, all of my carpentry tools and Filmmaking gear are IN THE RV with me. YIKES!) Soon my trailer will be home to all of that sh*t and my bike.

And then I am hitting the road once my house sells. (Hopefully by Sept)

I plan to journey across the country, southern route, over through Texas or so, into Texas for a spell and then through the SW to LA.

I am hoping that my journey will be at the pace that I am living now. Enjoying every minute of it. And I want to drop in on as many dvxusers as possible. (well, those who'd want to maybe see me!)

I plan to take my time and stop in a town... find a spot for the RV and break out the bike.... maybe find some carpentry work that needs to be done... visit and enjoy... and then move on.

I hope to see many of you in my travels!

That's a brief update from the desk of Ted Arabian.
