Used larger pvc, and sewed in some elastic with like a hem on the edge so I can put these grommets in. I figured it would be easier to put up and break down. Any comments? Oh, yeah, I taught myself how to use my daughter's sewing machine to do this :) and uhh after I did that, had to make up for it by working on the car to remind myself of my gender. I still need to make some kind of diffuser for the lights, but its a work in progress.

Excuse the blurry photos.
here's a couple of clips I made today with it

Looking pretty good and smooth. Seems to have hotspots though at the sides and not so even on the middle. How about another light or two suspended from above and shining down at a 45 degree angle onto the screen to catch that middle part?

Yep, I thought about that, still got those dang hot spots. Thanks for the suggestion Mr. Cool lights. Might have to do it. Also I was thinking about covering some 12" wide cardboard strips or plastic strips for the sides in the same material. if I were to join two screens together I would somehow clip them on to cover the seams. As well make some for top and bottom so I can get the whole body of a person. Just some thoughts running thru this empty space here.

What material did you use? Looks like cotton, but I could be wrong.

Great job sewing! I don't think I'd even know how to turn one of those on!
Just another observation from a non-expert, are those T-12 or T-8 fluorescents? They seem like the T-12s which could pose a flicker problem with the magnetic ballast.
Also, to add to What Richard said, maybe one more tube set above and one from below (assuming no head to toe shots).

Also, it appears that some green spill is getting on the talent, especially in the color vid you posted.
Not sure... Maybe get some more distance between the talent and the green.

Hey Kevin, looking good! Nice job on the PVC piping. I like how you built-in the lighting positions. And the sewing job! Wow. I hope you went out and changed a carburetor or installed new brakes. Something to really prove your manhood!
Seriously, this looks like a well-done project.
The first thing I did notice was the lighting. I think that you are going to need something that "shoots" light, like a reflective lamp or something. I am not sure about what you can and cannot use (such as the comment made by Lloyds about the T-12s), but I wondering if simple halogen work lights could work. Just a thought.
Really nice design happening. What are your plans? Seems like you might have a specific goal in mind with this.

Would back lighting it solve the problem or would that cause more forward spill?

I'm no expert, but I know that the more distance between the talent and the green the better. Easy to do in a studio, but hard to do in a living room.
I've never done it, but I know some people use minus-green gels to counteract the green. You would use it as a backight/hairlight from behind the talent (correct me guys on this if I'm wrong). Minus-green is a magenta gel that basically cancels out the green.
The best help is getting distance behind the green-drop and talent.

Correct, the more distance between the better. It also helps to soften the focus on the background

Backlighting would be nice but would definitely dictate more rim lighting and more distance between talent and screen.

Yeah, I need to put more distance between the talent and the screen. Haven't yet found out what that material is. It is very stretchy, and flattens out nicely. I will take it to the fabric store and ask if I can get more of it. (I took the last of it almost a year ago when I found it.) Yes Ted, I will rebuild the motor on my work truck that same day. Gonna be tough, its got that Ford V10 in it.

As you can see from the picture of the back, green spills across the whole room, and its not a real small room. Would flags on the lights help? I have access to a stage with some stage lights pretty much any saturday. I will have to try setting up there to experiment a bit.
And my plans for this Ted, aren't specific. I would like to have the option to make use of the green screen in future productions. If I can perfect the picture produced, it can open doors in all aspects of video. I have some ideas floating around my head, then it gets clouded with trying to perfect the hardware side of things. Work is crazy right now, but I'll try more options this weekend.
