The One-Hundredth Worst Day in the Life of Bartholomew Saxton
On December 12th, 1979, Bartholomew Saxton obtained paper cuts on every single one of his fingertips while mailing Christmas cards. Later that day, he went in to work at his current job, as a typist.
Haha, nice title and nice marketing. Welcome and good luck.

The Ninety-Ninth Worst Day in the Life of Bartholomew Saxton
On April 21, 1968, Bartholomew Saxton had to give a fifteen minute speech on Edgar Allan Poe in his high school English class. Much to his dismay, he was visited by an ill-timed erection. Very little of his highly prepared speech was heard through the laughter.
I too have had this happen...thank god for large hoodies...thats all I'm saying

The Ninety-Eighth Worst Day in the Life of Bartholomew Saxton
On November 12th, 2007, Bartholomew Saxton discovered time travel and immediately killed one of his ancestors in an accident involving a dozen ninjas, ice cream cones, waffles, a rubber duck... and guy with a movie camera

jasonthewho
03-07-2008, 06:14 AM
The countdown is definitely not over. However, I'm not sure whether or not it will be finished before June 16th. I may want to hold off on a few of the days until after people have seen the film. Otherwise I might risk spoiling moments in the film. But if all goes well the 6th day will be up before voting is over.

Jason,
I haven't read this thread yet... I will, but I just wanted to let you know that I really dig the title... It is one of those things that in many cases could be too verbose and too much, but in this case I think that it rocks. The title alone gives it a very inviting feel... can't wait to read the thread.

In film news, I bought a crucial prop today, for much less than I was expecting to spend! :)
I also auditioned a kid for Young Bartholomew. I have another kid auditioning today, and a third (and I think final) on Monday.
Larry R
03-27-2008, 03:09 PM
Yea, yea, bought prop...auditioned kid. That's fine. But where's today's episode?
Seriously, it's cool to hear the "real life" parts of the process too. Nice that you saved some money, definitely a critical skill needed for these productions. They say to never work with children or animals. You are violating the first, are you going to work in an animal too? :)
jasonthewho
03-28-2008, 12:25 AM
Fortunately, I have no animals. But... perhaps... Bartholomew could have a blind elephant...
And yes, I am late on my Bartholomew update. I apologize. Sometimes I just need a break from chronicling the life and times of Mr. Saxton. But there will be an update soon.
As a "real life" update, I got stood up by the kid I was supposed to audition last night and his mom. :( Although apparently it was a family emergency, and she wants to reschedule.
Started working on the music with Becca. We got some good ideas going.

LMAO! I totally agree!
Jason, I am totally hooked on your story countdown here.
What is your writing background? You are very good at it. I love your descriptions.
And that is some funny sh*t about the Lost reference!
I got hooked on Lost when a friend told me what I was missing. I had to wait until the 1st season was available on Netfilx and have continued to watched Lost a season behind. And my wife and I JUST finished watching season 3. OMG! I need to find out when they will start re-running season 4 from the first episode. I can't wait until Netflix releases this next year.
Anyway, sorry to hear about the no-show on the audition.
I really can't wait to see this film. It is going to be so great for us to watch something that we feel close to and know the characters. Very novel of you! (no pun intended!)
Now, gimme some more Bart!

Try http://www.lulu.com/ I haven't used them myself, but they seem to be a good choice.
It's free to publish. You can choose soft cover or hard cover and within that there are different options to size and binding. You set your own price for sales (they tell you what the manufacturing costs are based on your option choices). They print and ship as ordered, so need to buy/store large quantities.

Just got permission from Baylor University's theatre department to use their props. This will save me a ton of money, so I'm super excited about that.
We have a production meeting on Thursday, and rehearsals soon as well.
I've decided to turn my bedroom into one of the locations. It will be a pain in the ass, but I think it will yield the best results. Still not sure about one of the locations.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy with my fiancee's birthday on Wednesday and yesterday I had both a production meeting and a rehearsal.
The production meeting was great. The crew all seems excited, and we discussed a lot of things and made some good headway.
The rehearsal also went really well. It was with just two of my actors, for their scenes. They worked hard, and took direction well. I think they're both ready to shoot.
I'll try to post a worst day later in the morning.

Hey! Brilliant job with the story snippets. I've really enjoyed reading them instead of doing what I was supposed to be working on. Really glad to see someone emphasizing storyline so heavily.
So are the "worst days" that you're posting going to tie into the short? Is it going to be an entirely self-contained story? Very curious!
Good luck with this.

In response to your questions, I will say that the more of the days you've read, the more you should get out of the film. However, it is intended to stand alone as well.
In pre-production news, I got a costume piece in the mail. I also was able to borrow a whole bunch of set pieces and props.

I just wanted to say that I am amazed at how great all of the films in this fest look. I sure picked an intimidating first dvxfest to enter! It's great to see so many people helping each other out. I wouldn't have ever entered without Dustin roping me in for his Lovefest entry Given, and I wouldn't have been able to make Bartholomew Saxton without his help and the help of fellow DVXuser member Gary French.
I hadn't directed anything in over a year, but this fest made me kick my ass into gear and make something. I'm really proud of how this film is turning out, and I can't wait to show it to all of you.

I thought I'd post a couple of BTS shots. These pictures were taken by my fiancee who is also multitasking as script supervisor, producer, actress, and composer for Bartholomew Saxton.
Here's Dustin stealing electricity from the neighbors! The house where we were filming didn't have electricity yet (I found out the day before the shoot). Fortunately a kindly neighbor helped us out.

05-21-2008, 01:45 PM
Hey man, I am really diggin the look of the film... the BTS of Dustin is funny! The expression on his face is almost like he is stealing power from the neighbors and he is glancing around to see if anyone is looking.
Is that what you are doing.... Why didn't we think of that?
Oh crap... I just went and actually re-read the comment about Dustin stealing power... now it is even funnier... although I do not know why!
Rock on brother filmmakers.... try not to get thrown in jail.... I am afraid that it wouldn't be very impressive to tell your murderous, raping cellmates that you "Plugged into the neighbors power" when they ask, "What you in for BOY!" You might want to practice a scary comeback!
This makes me want to watch even more!
Dustin R. Rogan
05-21-2008, 02:14 PM
LOL love the pic of me stealing the power...though it was staged...still looks funny. I love the shot of the three of us over the camera...infact so much i put it as my PS3 background...i'ma dork i know...

Thanks guys! Mark, your comment made me laugh with your realization midway through that Dustin was doing exactly that.
I'm always afraid I'm going to get arrested while filmmaking, at least four times in my filmmaking career I've been approached by cops (Twice shooting The Dustin Rogan Project!) It did not happen on this one though, and since the neighbor was okay with it, I think I'm in the clear (I also gave him some money at the end of the day to pay for the electricity we used).
And Dustin, I'm going to go see Indiana Jones on Friday with Becca's family. Sorry! Although I couldn't go anyway as I'll be at work.
