So I've decided to do a little ADR work, some of the wind is just too damn much...(i hate wind) So ADR, Beer, and Rock Band...Perfect night!
after tonight we should be really "wrapped" with this debacle...I mean heart felt piece
until then! Canned Cheese!
Rogan, Out!
*(until the guys get here, I'm going to fancy up the "cast" info, will post them up laters)

actually have a CC that I like (thanks to Gary) I hate CC'ing...reedit on begining, thought I'd better throw a measurement of time in my movie (clock), so found an appropriate spot for that...you know so i don't risk getting DQ'd from the fest in all.
The ADR, took forever todo....andwe ended up not even using parts of it...oh well...

Thanks to Moojangles for messing with it and taking the god aweful wind out of my flick, downloading it now

i don't know that i helped much :(
Best way to fix a lot of that would be to re-record it inside if you could. Not sure how complicated it is to get that cast together again.
Sounds like an interesting project though, my only other advice is stop running out of beer... geez.
Dustin R. Rogan
06-10-2008, 07:23 AM
I'm stuck with it, I took a listen to it, and it pretty much sounded like my version of the "clean up" like they were all talking through a wet toilet paper roll...oh well!!!
SO IF YOU'RE READING THIS, I KNOW I HAVE WIND, AND I KNOW ITS ANNOYING. I'VE LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE TO BE BETTER PREP'D FOR A WINDY DAY SHOOT.
Anyways, finishing up CCing this friday as well as beer drinking...cuz its payday!!!
That is all for now...at far as I know, can't wait for next fest!

I had a "celebrity" encounter so to speak. I'm not sure if any of you guys have seen the movie Teeth. (Teeth Trailer) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=2K0OS4gCpos) Great movie, made me scared of girls for a little bit. But I was on my way to work today and wanted to grab a bite to eat before I went in. Stopped in at McDonalds, and I look up from the drink fountain machine, and see The girl from Teeth. First thought was "Nah, can't be her" but damn I kept giving her little glances, I'm about 95% sure it was her. anyways, if you don't know what I'm talking about....here she is

Hello Dustin,
I only started to give my coments to this forum since yesterday. Before I let the conversation part to Jason, because my english needs more practice. But what I note above all: there are some members who give always their coments!!!!! Nothing matter - you was the person who like to hear german - right? Then you it is absolutly necessary that you see our film!
Very, very much luck.

Hello Dustin,
sorry, I made only critic - sometime I am to much german and I need some attention above it, particulary in a forum with a nice atmosphare like the TimeFest. Here are some compliments: The fotos of your crew seem very sympatic and I like the foto with the fish - hi, hi.
Very warm greetings from Berlin

Hello Dustin,
you are very sweet and sympatic. Your german is quiet good. I think you will understand all of the dialog, because 1. there is't so much difficult dialog and 2. there will be subtitles to help you understand it.
Hopefully my english will be next month as good as your german, because I get marry with Jason in England and I have to understand the registrar!

So I'm sportin' my newily made TDRP shirt in hopes that today is Viewing Day...(crosses fingers)
While its fresh on your minds going into viewing....
alittle about the flick
This was an experimental film for me...
Role Reversal, having the guys usually behind the camera in front of the camera, including myself, Gary French (DP) Matthew Bravo (writer/PA) Jason Pruett (script editor), Colt Stewart (PA), Kelly Wheat (audio), and of course the usual faces you've seen/heard in our previous films (Secret Admiration for Spyfest, Retribution for All Hallows Eve Fest, and Given for Lovefest).
This was shot mainly outside on a hellacious windy day. So All natural light, lost some equipment so we made do with what we had, so you'll hear a bit of wind in the diologue. Nothing I could do in post w/o it sounding like they're talking through a wet toliet paper role.
Shot all in 7-8 hours. Script, well script lets you dive into the world of a Waco, Texas DVXuser.
Peoples I want to thank
Gary French - Inspiration for script, use of equipment, changing his mind and being on screen
Matthew Bravo - Inspiration for script, a good drinking partner, life long friend
Jason Spinos - putting up with my crap ass ideas, and guideing me into a descent filmmaker, always making me want to be better!
Justin, Sarah, David, Colt, Kelly Jason P. - Putting up with me and helping me with my idea for a fun movie.
Mark Johnson and Jack Daniel Stanley (and crew)- Giving a young filmmaker a chance! And not saying "we're busy, we have to go milk goats". You two are what I look up to, keep it up and unintentinally making me do better. I'll be knocking on the Monster Shack one day in the future!
Mark Aro and Ted Arabian - Sending me vital props! And having a ear to talk to...so to speak...more of a PM box to write to me in...whatevs
Last but not least, my mother,
http://a503.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/54/l_19df873724c46d53c8dd89f488b9b616.jpg
God rest her soul with her continuous health problems, she consistantly reminds me that she's my number one fan. And when I told her about JDS and the Dude...she shreeked out loud "THANK YOU JESUS, THANK YOU" then proceeded to cry. I told her that I might go out to LA and visit the guys on set in the near future...and she was way too excited! lol. Gotta love moms right
Anyone else I missed THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM of my heart!

Well, I'm getting nervous...Hope I didn't hype this movie too much! But all in all I have a feeling we go live soon with the viewings soon. This was an incredibly fun movie, and i hope that carries over into the audience. Also I don't think I have to tell you to, but the other film from Waco that some of my crew helped on is The Five Worst Days of Bartholomew Saxton, That is a film that will turn heads!
I already did my indepth thank you post (a few above) but again thanks to those who were involved with this project!
Happy Viewing,
Rogan
PS be nice when you critique me...I know the wind may bother a few....

I really loved the self deprecating tone of this. The Jason The who line about "I write a book and he just shi@ts on a piece of paper" made me laugh out loud. I got to see the JDS/mark footage in california and that was a riot, should have played it close to the vest rather than put in your banner.
You have a great sense of humor, I look forward to seeing you do a comedy that is a little less inside as to dvxuser. You have the chops. congrats.

Someone may have already suggested this, but if you put a high-pass filter on your entire audio track, set at about 100 hz, the wind noise wouldn't be so bad.
Otherwise, I enjoyed it very much.
Not too many comedies in this fest, so it was refreshing.

Dustin - you are a strange person. (but I enjoyed it)
Oh I agree... Strange doesn't cover it... you are definitely a FREAK! You and TROY (AKA OHSHMEE - The Impossible Race).
SPOILERS:
Great timing, great extra touches... way to much Man BUTT! YUK!
The "What are we doing... don't worry it is all in HERE!"... FUNNY and TOO TRUE!
I really liked the restraining order comment and her looking down and changing her comment about how close you are... very funny.
I really liked the distracted part to the sunset sky... That was awesome! The timing and chemistry of those two guys was really fun. You could do a lot with them in future projects.
The CAMEO... BRILLIANT! I am still laughing about that one!
GREAT JOB MAN! Very entertaining! Thanks for not dropping F'Bombs every other word.
I thought the imagery (Sky, grassy field), colors, etc were quite nice... good choices.
The biggest downer for me was the wind... it made it REALLY hard to focus on the film. The comedy won out in the end, but it was not easy. (I too would like to see a NON WIND VERSION sometime).

I was able to look past the wind to the story and the story was funny...strange...but very funny. I thought the cameos were also brilliant.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS:
The cinematography for the most part was beautiful (The bridge walking and talking scene's lighting was the hardest for me. The others were great.). The rolling meadow shot where the lead says he will now go to die and races toward the ninjas was my favorite part. I also liked the guys talking behind your back and then being nice when you walked up. All in all an enjoyable short. I laughed out loud when the ninjas appeared. Fun Flick!

What can I say? You are twisted and deranged to the point that Waco is on our "must visit" list for the upcoming Fat Monsters on the Road trip.
I am now to the point that I find the wind to be an endearing part of this adorable turd of a picture. :) It was an honor to appear with JDS and I now consider Rogan to be a genius as well as certifiably dangerous.
Oh, and a little side note. The scene of JDS and I was shot with the HVX so you can compare directly the way or spaceship set appears using the RED (I think the HVX footage looks great and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot on that set with an HVX provided the same lighting kit would be available.)

This was one of the first ones I watched, and for me it's been one of the most entertaining entries. I think it's probably because you really get the sense that you guys had fun making it. Or, at least it definitely comes off that way on viewing.
The line "When is the film due?" "........tomorrow." Had me laughing.
Also, I'm a staunch supporter of impromptu, unexplained, and minorly offensive nudity in films.
I've watched it a few times now. I have no logical explanation for that. It's just fun.
EDIT: Case in point. While writing this, I was skimming through the film a bit to refresh my memory and my brother walked by saying "You're watching this one again?" Not even kidding.

I've been known to be "out of the box". I am at a loss for words the possitive response I've gotten outta this film. This only makes me wonder what would you guys think if we actually tried...you know wrote a full out script, instead of jotting ideas down. But I feel the best comedy is improve, tell the actors ok this is what I want the end result to be...now you only have a few takes...and ACTION!
The idea for the movie came when Matt, Gary and myself were sitting in my apartment trying to think about what the hell we're going to do for Timefest. Well much like the movie...Matt and Gary side tracked and went off subject, referencing Time Cop, The Terminator etc...Whilst they were side tracking I started typing out their conversation...and then about 30 mins later they noticed I wasn't talking with them, and asked what I was doing...and said, been typing your convo, now lets turn this into a movie...BINGO...THE DUSTIN ROGAN PROJECT was born...though it didn't have a title till the next monday when I went to work and talked with Jason Spinos (director of THE FIVE WORST DAYS IN THE LIFE OF BARTHOLOMEW SAXTON) and he was down for whateva and the when he went to leave and I was outside smoking I asked him if he had any suggestions for a title...he yelled what about "THE DUSTIN ROGAN PROJECT"...I said thats perfect!....
Anyhoos...i went on a bit long on this...but thats a small background to the insanity that became the movie you've hopefully just watched...or plan on watching...I hope.

That being said, it was the only thing that could get your bare sour ass out of my head.

Well I think this isn't against the rules...to have a rough draft of a script already written? But its alot more serious, not gonna say anything about it, but I know it'll be on the HVX200 this time, not the DVX100. Possibly colab with some Austin DVXusers, and a fellow Wacoian (Dick Campbell) whom we rescently found out is in our own back yard.
If anyone in the Mod-world can clarify for next fest, if a rough draft could qualify or not. I think it is ok, but just wanna play it safe, reguardless, I fell in love with the rough draft that Matt (the red shirted hispanic guy in TDRP) wrote about 6 months ago, then didn't touch it after that. So, we'll make a few more passes at it. And if qualifies and fits next fest then you'll see what I really can do!

Holy shi*! I have been watching the films pretty much in order of the zips, but couldn't wait for this one. And boy am I glad I didn't! I mean, The poo pooing Dude and JDS! That and the nudity as well as a penis reference. A penis reference! Then there were the ninajs which just sent this beast through the roof. Great work, Dustin, sorry I can't give a longer/more thourough review, I am too busy taking my pants off and trying to master the "JDS 'What? What?' Prance" and "Mark Johnson Head Tip" (as I am now calling them)
10/10 from me, buster! Best of luck!
Thanks Penguin! I too occationally find myself doing the "What What Prance!" I've only just begun i love making movies!

just watched your piece. Really liked it. I dug the concept and the DVXuser 'inside' jokes. I'm not even 1/2 way through the films, but I'm glad to see another humorous & fun piece,
Sorry i haven't read the 44+ pages of your thread, but if you clean up the audio (wind noise in particular) and add more ninjas, you are good to go.
Nice job!

Just brilliant! A tongue-in-cheek homage not only to the inevitable "last minute" entries that happen in these fests, but also the "get my friends together and make a film" spirit of DVXUser.com. And you poke the most fun at yourself, so we know it's all in good fun. Hilarious and entertaining the whole way through. A nice change of pace. Thanks for sharing.

I just can't afford $195 on 12 shirts at the moment

Ok...so today is a start of something new for the ol' Rogan....I've been a smoker almost since I graduated high school...(8 years) and I've had enough...maybe I should shoot a short on my progress...too bad I don't own a camera myself...or i'd make some....anyhoos...bought the patch today...and for good measure I'm running around with 2 on. I usually smoke 1 1/2 packs aday btw...so yeah this is going to be tough...and I get angry when this happens so lets hope the patch works.
Any other former smokers on here with any tips?

well nobody ever quites the same way. cold turkey doesn't work in most cases, since you're depriving yourself of somethign you want, andthe more you can;t have it.. well the more you want it. What worked for me was setting up a schedule for when i could have a cigarette.... like limit myself to 4 cigarettes a day and only have it at those set intervals... eventuallly cutting back... after a while I actually would forget about those intervals until one day i realised I hadn;t smoked at all.
Then it became like once per week... then less and less.. until i wasn't smoking anymore.
...Unitl I started to shoot my first feature and it all went to hell...

hey, do you have that without the TRDP over the top? I'd like to try out designing an alternative with the TRDP somewhere else (if you don;t mind)
The wind noise really hurt the comedy -- I needed a second viewing simply because I realized I hadn't heard a lot of the jokes people were talking about in this thread. Somehow the wind just made me tune out the dialogue at parts.
Hidden behind the wind is some seriously funny material. And while some of the fest-specific inside jokes are good for a laugh, I think the material could have been abstracted to be a humorous short about film-festivals or filmmaking in general. This was all in good fun, but it clearly has a limited audience. You can definitely write some funny stuff, and I'd love to see more.

There were some threads in the Cafe recently about this. You should take a look. Good luck!
Duff,
I agree about the wind, but in all fairness, Dustin cannot control nature. He did put an effort fourth to try and get the noise reduced, too, but it just proved impossible. Did it affect the viewing expirience? Sure. Can we complain about it? I don't think so.

aahh...day 1... I actually did pretty good for a guy that smokes like a pack plus a day. I only faultered 1 1/2 times. I'm very optimistic about how things are going thus far. I felt a little anger a times...but I tried to control it. Heres to another solid day!

Congrats on holding back. I would suggest completely getting rid of all your cigarettes. Just tell yourself NO. I read somewhere that someone put a little card in an empty box that said NO on it so everytime they would pull it out out of habbit, they would find the card.

Dustin!!
If only you had decided earlier, they could have asked the future you if you still smoked. I'm still laughing - at your film, not at you giving up smoking. I just saw it for the second and third times and it shouldn't but it does: it works! That final scene will surely go down in the annals of DVXuser.
I gave up smoking last November. It sounds silly, but I would think of the smell of really nasty dirty ashtrays when I wanted a cigarette. I never tried this, but maybe actually having one to stick your nose in might help too. Good luck.

I stopped smoking 18 month ago and I did it on new years day after a night where I consumed I couldn't remember how much alcohol and how many cigarettes. I felt bad for days and I wouldn't have back this feeling. This helped me for the first time. Afterwards died a very good friend of mine. He was a very intelligent nice person and only 42 years old. He was a smooker and died, because he had cancer. Although it was a very sad motivation to not restart smoking, it worked very well. That means hopefully nobody of your friends will die, but only to think that it could be happen is perhaps an motivation. I have to admit that some friends of mine are smoker and I always enjoy it to have them near by me when they are smoking, still today! Good luck!

Thanks for watching! It was funny the first time I saw the footage JDS and the Dude called me from Cali at 10 my time, woke me up.
If my memory serves me right the convo/my thoughts went something like this...
Ring Ring...
(Rogan reaches sleepily for the phone, doesn't recognize number)
Rogan: ugh....hello?
JDS: Is Dustin Rogan there?
Rogan: This is him, who is this?
JDS: Jack Daniel Stanley and Mark Johnson we have you on speaker
Rogan: (long dramatic pause, Rogan trying to put it all together, due to being half asleep, finally putting them together) HOLY F*CK! Hey....umm...whats up
(How the hell did JDS get my number....oh i think i gave it to him...maybe
JDS: We've shot everything and have it ready for you to download, but we wanted you on the phone when you watched it for the first time
Rogan: Umm, ok sir (seeing as they are figures I highly respect and such, I must call them sir)
JDS: heres the url........
(I go on babbling about some kind of music I was listening to when I went to sleep...which happened to be the day I PM'd Herman about a future project and I left my laptop on his website with his music playing....then the Dude chimes in, and yes i've fallen asleep to Hermans music more than once)
The Dude: Rogan are you drunk?
Rogan: LOL no, nevermind...ok watching now
(anyhoos... watched it laughed my ass off, after the fest I'll post the full version of what they sent me I think its funny as hell!)
This fest has been an awesome learning experience and has given me great confidence as a film maker and making me rethink my "style" of filmming. I've gotten such a great response for the "comedy" (or as I like to call it Life) If our comedy idea fits the next fest I believe it'll be far better than TDRP...but who can go wrong with ninjas and my nice a$$. But our more serious idea will be awesome, far better cinematically than anything we've done thus far!

PS I :love4: JDS and the Dude

Just caught the flick. This was a fun romp through your mind was tougue firmly stuck in cheek.
There were some technical issues and a lack of music that hindered this from being a perfectly fun film. I love your use of the theme. The acting was great, the editing nice and the pacing just right. I really enjoyed this watch. Thanks for the second entry. ANd now, for many more, I hope.

In the past few days, DVXusers Ben Sliker and Justin Kuhn sat down and chatted over AIM while simultaneously watching the same TIMEFEST films. We call them, "The AIM sessions". Here's their thoughts on "TDRP"
This is a 'special edition' of the AIM sessions, Assistant Director Brad Mate has tagged in for Justin from the crew of JAM. Please excuse the stupid out of order time stamps by iChat.
spesliker (1:11:40 PM): TDRP, mordere or urashima inc

spesliker (1:16:14 PM): so, now you can imagine my pain

TheBrad84 (1:21:15 PM): say no to crack
spesliker (1:21:32 PM): lol
spesliker (1:21:48 PM): HE'S THE TERMINATOR, HE HAS TO TRAVEL NAKED.
TheBrad84 (1:22:10 PM): ah penis joke
TheBrad84 (1:22:13 PM): good times
spesliker (1:22:31 PM): lol ... i get it ... you know ... cause he's got a little penis
TheBrad84 (1:22:56 PM): ugh
spesliker (1:23:19 PM): my ears are bleeding.
spesliker (1:23:37 PM): i suggest not wearing headphones while watching this.
spesliker (1:23:44 PM): HE'S AH-NOLD, HE'S FROM DA FU-CHA!
spesliker (1:24:18 PM): more man ass
TheBrad84 (1:24:32 PM): that looks like my window's desktop
spesliker (1:24:59 PM): cmon ... sony's aren't allowed in this fest
spesliker (1:25:05 PM): oh wait ... that was last year.
spesliker (1:25:30 PM): this guy from bartholomew has some chops
spesliker (1:26:07 PM): i bet you that's still the same time of day
TheBrad84 (1:26:05 PM): nah, its a totally different color. it cant be
spesliker (1:26:34 PM): man, this is like a day-for-night connery bond film
spesliker (1:26:46 PM): BEST WALK EVAR
TheBrad84 (1:26:36 PM): lol
TheBrad84 (1:26:41 PM): jds does everything the best
spesliker (1:27:15 PM): i gotta meet this guy.
spesliker (1:28:00 PM): not gonna lie, i'm replaying the jds walk over and over again
TheBrad84 (1:27:54 PM): lol me too
TheBrad84 (1:28:02 PM): what what?
TheBrad84 (1:28:23 PM): the payoff almost makes the gratuitous man-ass worth it
spesliker (1:28:58 PM): nothing is worth that much bare sour man ass
spesliker (1:29:09 PM): how can you really edit your own ass?
spesliker (1:30:06 PM): thoughts?
TheBrad84 (1:30:41 PM): loved all the cameos, especially the end payoff with the greatest walk evar. if the sound were better and the man-ass played down i might have enjoyed more of the jokes throughout.
Dustin ... dude. bro. There's only one thing that I gotta know. Where in the timeline of events for TimeFest, did you say to yourself "Hey, I got an idea ... we'll make a comedy about making a movie ...and it will star ... my ass." Was there no one around to say "That's probably not a great idea."? lol. This was pretty funny. And what to go better with it ... than a TDRP thong. Wait, Isn't that a contradiction, i thought robots WEREN'T supposed to wear pants?

First of all thanks!
I'd like to point out that Justin "aka the guy from Bartholomew" was in my Love Fest movie "Given".
Well originally we did have a Terminator entrance, but I got shy ass when it came time to actually shoot it, so I went for the pull the pants down to where it shows crack and "appears" to be naked me. So thats why it went that way.
I was against the naked me at first, but then Gary and Matt said I couldn't do it half ass (pun intended)
As I've said, most of movie was 'guided improv'
JDS / The Dude Scene - I told them this is what I want, go with it do what you will, I trust you guys! Speaking of which...hope the guys still have the vid. to d-load so I can share the entire thing with you guys...
be on stand by
