SO now it begins. I've got the first draft of "The Other Room" completed and it's with my writing partner Andrew Stoute waiting for his input.

Biggest thing that I'm now wondering about is that damn field of yellow tulips.... may need a VFX guy for this one.

Made contact with my potential lead today, Matt Nitchie. We're going to have to meet to hash out details and see if he's the perfect fit for the role. I had kind of written the character "Joey Davis" with him in mind, so let's hope I got it right.

I'm still looking for my "Ariane". Need that dark beauty which a lot of the actors I've looked at, just don't seem to have.

kinda sci-fi.... it's definitely in the fantasy realm since it's dealing with dreams, but not the regular "movie sci-fi"... more along the lines of the "what if" sci fi.

I gotta post the synopsis and the full poster

Synopsis: In his dreams, Joey Davis can remember the future. When Ariane, the girl from his dream shows up on his doorstep, it is the one thing that he has no memory of...

I am very intrigued by the field of yellow tulips! I am excited to hear where this goes!

added the poster.
Started casting (finally) and switched locations for this shoot. We'll be now shooting in Toronto in May and I've already got some talent set to come in for auditions.

We'll be working with new cast and crew, so it should be interesting.

Thanks. So am I. Now I have to conquer the new landscape that is independent film in Toronto.... quite different than anything I've ever worked with so far. i was almost tempted to do this shoot in NYC instead, but the field of tulips wouldn't have worked quite so well...

yeah, try to avoid shooting in NYC. I shot my film in Minnesota this time around, and am very very tempted to go back.

I'm still casting, but I'm trying to secure my locations here in Toronto and get my props purchased.

Still looking for the perfect chair in thrift stores and coming up with a design for the door is interesting at best. I think we've locked down the actual look of it, now it's just implementing it and seeing which bits we're going to have to shoot practically instead of in greenscreen.

I'd wanted to have the door installed in some places, but places like in the street and on walls or even on grass would be difficult, and a free standing door loses its effect after a while, so looks like we'll be shooting a bit of blue or green screen against the surfaces and then shooting the door from the matching angles.

This is what pre-production is so useful for: figuring out the logistics of it all so we don;t waste time in production.

So I ended up leaving half of my gear in New York, mainly bracue I had planned to be shooting quite a few projects there. So here I am in Toronto, no jib, no dolly, no lights... just camera. i don't even have my studio mic for voiceover work.

So I just finished building a new Jib since I'm really going to need it for this project. My shotlist is pretty tight right now and the addition of a jib for some of these shots is absolutely essential.

Now I gotta build a dolly and I should be good in terms of equipment.

Now for auditions....

Right, I've got tons of great looking girls for Ariane (my lead actress and villain), and only one good submission for Joey (my lead). There seems to be a drought of young surfer type blonde men in Toronto... at least those who can act.

The search continues...

Working on a new draft of the script. Adding in a character who had been written out and I think this will fix some of the hole in the story. I was going to name him "Kholi" (so that Kholi would have nothing but good words for this character), but thought better of it and instead will call him "Dennis Midler".

Got a good actor for the part too. Well at least he has the look for it. Now to get him to audition...

Auditions are set for May 06 and I've at least secured a location for that.

Wow, several of you guys are cutting it down to the wire. I mean, I usually am shooting like a week before the deadline. But this time we wanted to get it early. You have a lot of post on this one?

mostly for the Field of Daisies and a couple of the doorway shots, but, mainly FX. Editing usually only takes me a day or two, then I go about trimming and fixing problems. I'm actually planning to be finished a week before deadline... so I'm right on schedule. earlier than i was last time anyway. I shot and edited Anniversary with hours to spare. At least this time I'm planning everything out.

scrapping the VFX shots. we wrote them out. instead we're shooting practical fx on a beach next week. planning to re-record all dialog in post, so not worried about the wind on the beach.
