Congratulations to all the filmmakers, crew, and actors that entered LoveFest 2008. The films were really great this round and we really saw some filmmaking chops on display. We can only recognize a small number of films and individuals with the awards, but you should all be proud of coming up with one of the strongest groups of films we've ever seen. I hope you'll all consider entering your films in juried festivals and other contests and we wish you all the best of luck.
Thanks to our generous sponsors for donating the prizes for DVXFest and to Jason Ramsey, our prize wrangler.

Congratulations Matty, Jason, Mark & Co. and all of the winners!!! You guys are very deserving of these awards. What a killer fest this was.
A couple entries that I'm surprised didn't place, but hey that just goes to show how much quality there was this time around. I know there were a few that were tied for me and it was almost a coin flip to select just one.
Timefest....Barry and mods, you guys keep picking great themes. And so it begins....Tick-tock, tick-tock.

Blaine,
I'm thinking Dinsmoor on a tennis court with lots of rack focus. Can't lose. Will get you a treatment so you can start writing tonight. Also need to talk to you about a mental patient role. Could really amp up this production and let us beat Matty G. this time.

Just had a long conversation with Jack Stanley. Jack says the key is to look at the winning fest entries. Learn from them. Go to school on them. Steal from them, if need be. Thus, for Time Fest we will be shooting a sensitive drama involving S.P. Dinsmoor suffering from Alzheimers while working in a record store.

Congratulations everyone! You all turned out fantastic pieces and I wish I would have gotten into the action and written some. This really was a great Fest.
TimeFest sure sounds intriguing. I want to know the details! The hunger for more information has forced me, crying, to the floor. Luckily I have this wireless keyboard and can continue my typing spree.
I am definitly going to get involved in this next fest. I am planning on offering up my writing ability to those who would like it, and I may even make a film of my own, although I don't think I could live up to any of the one's in this Fest.

Reading the responses here it really say something about this site and the people on it. IMDB 30 seconds after "No Country For Old Men" won the oscar there were countless posts talking about a rip-off and worthless awards. Here everyone's congratulatory. It's a nice change.

Congrats everyone, some tough entries indeed with regards to MANY being of high production value & concept.
Great job!
Question: What film(s) were folks like Geof and Herman recognized for? I'm assuming they may have shot/scored more than one, so just curious if it's for a specific film. On that note, CONGRATULATIONS to you both as well! :)
Lastly, "Time Fest". Sounds cool. If this is to be the best fest yet of all past fests, it would be great if the categories could be increased as well, similar to major festivals, or Acadamy Award stuff (i.e. Best Actor, Director, Score, etc.). While most of these would simply be nods without actual awards, I can only imagine the satisfaction the other artists (i.e. talent, writers, etc.) would get from being recognized as well.
Soooooo, all that said, thanks to everyone who submitted, and a HUGE thank you to everyone at DVXuser (Barry, Larry, Jared, and all the other Mods that have been involved behind the scenes) for putting it all on in the first place!!!

Geoff was for WTHL and I'm not sure which one particular for Herman since there are more than one. In addition to their fine work on the particular projects they won for, there was also a feeling / discussion about both these guys that they volunteer themselves for free on other people's projects all the time and they just do consistently excellent work each and every time which should be recognized.

Gonna have to stop you there mate. I seriously doubt with the amount of effort and skill shown in your piece that luck had much to do with it at all.
Congrats to all the winners and entries. Was certainly some interesting pieces this time around. And to the orgnaisers, love the next fest topic them, I imagine we are all going to be shown so extremely varying pieces.

That's all there is. It isn't a glitch. Matty took the bold approach of making the statement that in two minutes he could blow everyone else's 6 minutes out of the water and it worked. His stuff is so good he doesn't need an ending.

Does anyone know who got the Tech-Award?
That was awarded privately to a film that really had almost everything, but was hampered by bad sound. Great lighting, acting, characters, story, everything else -- but sound issues kind of held it back. The filmmaker has elected a free copy of our forthcoming "Sound for Motion Pictures & Television" DVD. I really look forward to what this filmmaker does for TimeFest, because if the sound issues were off his/her back, they'll be a force to be reckoned with!
Sprocketboy
02-26-2008, 08:43 AM
I had an issue with a couple of entries because of bad sound work. They were wonderfully produced, but sound is 50 percent of the equation. Sound is so powerful it makes you see things that are not there, its as visual as the image itself, so don't take it for granted. I hope to hear better sound work in the next fest.
