I am new to the HVX 200 and just finished watching Barry Green’s HVX BOOTCAMP
I am still a little confused; although he gave me a lot of very good information. My question is that I was going to buy a Firestore FS-100, but to shoot 720 24 PN It looks like I’ll have to use P2 Cards. The DVD still didn’t say what is the optimum for the camera in a feature film. If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.
What is the best format for a feature film without distribution? I am editing with Avid pro.
Thanks in advance for your response,

You can only shoot 24pn to the P2 cards, as it only records the actual frames being used (no pulldown is involved). As a result, nothing is sent out via firewire.

You can, however use the regular 24p or 24pn modes with the Firestore just fine. I also believe the new Firestore firmware can automatically strip out the duplicate frames as it records in order to save space (which is basically what the 24pn mode does anyway).

As for what format to shoot in, that depends on the look you're going for. Most of us shoot in 24p in order to emulate the look of film, but if you're going for a reality look, 30p or 60i is probably better.
