Hi I've just started using the HVX200 at my film school (University of Utah) we're all pretty fresh with this camera and pretty much learning together. I've recently had my first opportunity to test and play around with it. I was only able to use it for 2 hours for my testing and didn't really get much done. I was able to test out the different built in scene files (F1-F6) and tried changing some stuff myself but ran out of time before I could really get into it.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some information that can help me get ahead. What are some good scene files that you use? What advice would you give to someone just starting with the camera. What pitfalls should I be aware of and avoid?
I've been told to read the HVX book by Barry Green but sadly for a student it's priced out of my range. I'm going to try to talk the department into buying some as reference copies but for right now just reading the book is not an option for me.
Thanks for your help
Jake

There's LOTS of information already on this site -- spend some time searching around. :)

here is a link to HVX menus explained that might come in handy for trying to set parameters for the scene file settings...

I agree with David, spending some time reading threads on this site is the way to go.

I agree, youre best resource is this site. Try to get your hands on the camera and actually use it as much as possible, and write down your questions - you will find all of your answers here...
Read the manual from front to back, then maybe over at

Read all the posts you can here.
You can pick up Barry's book for about $50 at the marketplace.

Wow :) It's nice to know I am not the only one out here in Ohio. I have been to Genoa and most of the towns in mid to northwest Ohio when I worked climbing poles for Time Warner Cable. I hope your brother didn't get flooded out of his home like many of the people here have during the last flood. I did okay this last time because I had my basement waterproofed.
I just wish there was more video work here in Findlay. It's getting pretty lean between jobs.
What does your brother do?

No fear, I live in Northern Virginia these days, but was born and raised in Cleveland, went to college in Toledo. Ohio's a great state. :)
