Out of curiousity - I'm wondering how many EX-1 purchasers are planning on using primarily the HD SDI output for recording to avoid the long GOP, rollingshutter and artifacting in movement.
I've seen a lot of impressive images form the EX - but I've also seen a lot of footage with the previously mentioned issues.
A small handful of people I've discussed this with stand strongly by the EX-1 and always tout the HD SDI recording as a way around the long GOP - thus making it better than other cams in the same price range.
So how about it---- how many people are actually tethering this $6500 camera to a $25k - $60k deck? or just waiting for the HD SDI compact flash portable recorders?

The only portable HD-SDI recorder I know of is the forthcoming Convergent XDR, but at $5,000 it costs almost as much as the camera. And it won't do a thing to avoid rolling shutter artifacts; those are from the sensor and will appear in all recordings.
It could overcome long-GOP issues but only if you use the 160-megabit recording mode, which means your footage would take up 5x as much room. Side benefit would be that it's 4:2:2 instead of 4:2:0 though.
I feel pretty confident in saying the 100mbps 4:2:2 mode is going to be plenty adequate for any recording situation, long-GOP or not.

HD-SDI (or HDMI) are great options to have, but to take advantage of them it's going to cost bucks.

The upcoming cineform recorder is supposedly 2,000 or less and will have hdmi recording. When its available you could use a blackmagic hdlink to convert it to hdmi and have a recording solution for under about $2500. However, that would only be possible when its available and I am not sure of the disadvantages when converting hd-sdi to hdmi.

T and I am not sure of the disadvantages when converting hd-sdi to hdmi.
I wouldn't think there's any, as it's staying digital.

I really hope this works, cos I think the convergent design flash XDR system is way too expensive.

and the xdr records 8 bit, not 10 bit, which is one of the main features of the hd-sdi recording.
