Need an opinion.

Hello fellow DVXers, I need an opinion on what aspect ratio to shoot in. I'm not asking wich one is technically "better," I am merely asking your thoughts on wich one you like the look of more, for this specific kind of film, that being ski/snow board. I am shooting on a DVX without the anamorphic adapter, and it would be nice to have the extra area for wide shots, but if it looks better in 16x9 I'll use letterbox.

Personally, I like the widescreen one on the right better. Even framing wise, I think its better.

If you go 16:9, you should shoot SQUEEZE. Bring it into the NLE as 16:9 and it'll fill the area with no bars.

Doesn't squeeze decrease apparent resolution er somethin' like that?

You can actually use COMPRESSOR to export without the black bars, turning it into a 16:9 video altogether or 2.35:1

I am done shooting squeeze cause it drops the quality due to the digital process. Its either letterbox or 4x3. And i'm using PProCS3

i think there are advantages to both - if you're going 4:3 you can shoot a bit more freely and catch more of what's going on.

but i'm assuming you'll be focusing on individual skiers - if that's the case, the look is much cooler.

i would shoot letterbox and then cut off the black bars in post.

True, you could just crop it.

Yeah.... cant aford that, and the shoot this is for is tomorrow thru monday.
