Hi guys, let me just start by saying that this is the best website of its kind and I really appreciate all the help and advice I get from here.

I am a freelance D.P and a proud parent of the Canon XHA1
I just got a pretty nice film where they will be using the XL H1.
I just wanted to know what the main differences are between the 2, Is there something that I should know or read up on to further my knowledge before I jump into the shoot?
Also I have another possible gig where they will be using the XHG1 and was wondering how similar the functions on the cameras are .

Thank you

The three cameras are very similar. The H1 has a shoulder mount body style, ENG style VF, removable lenses and SDI out. The XH-A1 and G1 are practically identical except that only the G1 has SDI out.

I believe they all use the same sensor and the quality of footage is pretty indiscernible.

Thanks Marco, I was really wondering if there were any controls that I should familiarize my self with.

Oh, for that I would just recommend searching the net for PDF copies of the camera manuals.

Handling. The XL-H1 is much heavier, shoulder-mounted and front-heavy. But with some equipment mounted on the back (Anton Bauer/IDX/Firestore/G2 wireless) it becomes easier to work with. Furthermore, the XL-H1 has more controls on the outside which makes it easier to adjust settings while shooting.

Image quality is probably the same (only different lenses).

The "custom presets" are not interchangeable between the two cameras. I would check this forum for a host of custom presets built by folks around here.
