I shot some more test footage. This time I shot in the lower quality 1080 24p mode with the stock lens. I believe that's the same quality as HDV, right? I was pretty happy with the results and it extended recording time quite a bit.

Does the EX1 has a B&W mode?

This was shot in a grave yard in mystic, CT. I forget the name.
The EX1 does not have a black and white mode, but it does have picture profile settings that can be edited. I dropped the chroma and crushed the blacks a bit and used a film gamma. The camera is very adjustable.
Even at HDV quality, it's very sharp. Full quality looks even better.

It was when I first got the camera. I might have not turned on the shutter. It might have been whatever is the cameras default is. I now use 1/48 on everything.
The HDV quality is quite good and holds up on a big screen HDTV.
I still free the full quality setting of course, but it's nice to know that I can use the lower quality setting if I need more shooting time and still get great results.

Hey, I think this is not far from RED! Looks like great camera. Now people will buy RED just because it is RED.
