Hi everyone,
I am planning to get a new computer to replace and old Powerbook Titanium.
What do you guys think in the Macbook (2.2 Ghz)? My budget is really low, that's why I am going for this machine. I know the Imacs work fine, but I want some portability and the MacBook Pro is way too expensive for me at the moment.
Do you think MacBook supports HD footage good enough to also use it as field monitor?
Thanks in advance and hope I get a response soon.

I know someone that has that set up and it works fine. Go for 2gb ram minimum though as HD is very demanding. It won't be as fast a 2.6 macbook pro but it will get the job done.
As far as the field monitor goes, I haven't been to successful with using my macbook pro as a monitor for my 35mm adapter which flips the image. If you can preview in FCP, it should be good enough but getting a dedicated monitor is far better. Be sure to get the matte lcd option if you plan to use it in the field as glossy will defiantly show glare madly.
Hope this helps!

91st,
Thanks for your reply... i was thinking more than field monitor, maybe use it as direct hard drive recording, I still like using the viewfinder more than a monitor when possible. I guess is more my film background.
Anyways, thanks!!!

I have a MBP and an A1, and definitely do not recommend using it as a field monitor. Over FW, the lag is so hard that it's impossible to do anything. If you have a completely static frame, it blows up the image, but it's too slow to focus or do anything worthwhile. If you need a field monitor on the cheap, just get a portable DVD player and a 3.5mm aux audio cable and plug into the video ports. Works for me :)
Now, if you discover DTD recording anywhere, post it up. I would love that.
