With the deadline coming up, why doesn't everyone share some stories they had over the past couple of months, while in production for their Lovefest short film.

Any thing bad happen on set? In the edit?

Share your Lovefest stories!

My XLR to mini adapter was busted and I didn't know it until the morning of the shoot, it was a rental.

So I shot as much as I could without sound, we wrapped early that day.
Then I shot like crazy the next day with a new adapter.

It kind of sucked actually.... but what can you do. :)

My production got knocked out by poor commitment. At least 70% of the film shot, edited, adr stuff was being done, music was half way there, and BOOM. Nothing now. :)

Forgot a boom pole/boom op, so I taped a mic to a broom pole and the broom pole to a light stand.

Made a movie in which a honeydew melon is a central character.

I have a great idea for a film, but I don't have any idea how to begin, where to get actors, how to do sound, how to do lighting.
The only thing I do have is my HVX and a set of sticks and a mic.

I wish I had more time.

The day we shot the film the wind was blowing 30 to 40 mph. Standing out in the country. The wind totally changed how I had planned to do the dialog. I had to be done different. The wind was blowing around little pieces of the cornfield I guess and it got on the lens. Totally ruined a few shots. I re-shot a few things 4 days later then the main actor left for Florida and NYC. There was another actor who bailed out about a week before.

So I did what I could. The idea is almost nothing like I had planned when I first started.
But I made a 3 minute film about love. Not your normal story about love.

This is my first DVX fest and it has been fun. It has been a very good learning experience. Not perfect at all but I did what I could with what I had to to tell the story.

my girlfriend and co-producer and editor (on Heart of Now), Jamie Cobb, discovered she has a knack for location sound work on IFHY. she received half a day of training from a friend of mine who is a sound designer that loaned us his Sennheiser 416, a boompole and his Sound Devices 702T. i was amazed. she worked the axis just right and often the sound is better here than in some scenes in Heart of Now where we hired a pro.

she's pretty much the girlfriend every filmmaker should have.

Nothing awful happened on any of my days except a bit of rain during my last shot one day.

The fun part was running around a city with an actor dressed completely as a homeless man. My favorite part was when a girl passed us and he told me "I asked her out last week and she said maybe later... somehow I think that's not going to happen after her seeing me homeless"

I had a problem with my wireless sennheiser lapel mic during the first day of shoot. We shot a scene near a lake and the audio was terrible due to some interference in the area. I can't do anything because there's only 3 of us so the first part of the scene has terrible audio and I can't really fix that. Audio sucks actually.

Boom mike 50 miles away with my roommate, actor 3 hours late and it was scheduled to rain all day. Had to rethink and said, gonna just use the camera Mic and do all of the dialog in ADR.

Halfway through the shot on the lake, the rain came pouring down, and the umbrella and plastic bag weren't helping. So we came back 3 hours later to get closeups.. on watching the footage, realised that the color temperatures were way off. in one bit of footage, the water is brown, then in the later footage, with sunlight, the water is green...

oh yeah, my dolly and jib were also 50 miles away with my roomate as well, so had to run and gun and try to get shots as steadily as possible.

Discovered later that my focusing screen had shifted slightly, so in the undersanned shots, the edge is clearly visible.... talk about fixing it in post...

no worries... i've been run and gunning for a long time before I even had a dolly or a jib, so some of the shots in my movie are faked.. or just really short.... just call me "The Human Jib". I've certainly had enough practice at it.... Still though.... had some incredible shots planned, but my roommate decided that spending the night with his girlfriend was more important than my silly little movie...

Hospital rooms are alot smaller than I remembered...made for cramped spaces for us crew people... see my producer in between the actors legs...so small...lol
