would elements 6 be good for making dvd covers? Should I buy PS elements 4 or wait for 6? I want to use the program in conjunction with FCP, so would elements 4 or 6 suffice, or should I purchase CS3 or CS3 extended?

you can work in those suites we had them for a while but they just restrict workflow in my opinion. If you just want to make DVD covers sure you could get away with Elements, but if you brought CS3 you could be making some sweet graphics and animate them with your FCP its a good way to start, this way your program can work for you not just for Stills but basic motion graphics etc.
