View Full Version : Formatting SxS cards
Hi,
On a job and of course i don't have my manual... but I am trying to format the cards after downloading (and cloning).
I can't seem to find a way to format the cards all at once. Just one clip at a time. And then it keeps asking me if i want to "restore clips" on power up.
Its probably something really simple but I miss the simple stuff sometimes...
thanks for the help.

Here's one thing I learned from the Vortex DVD on PMW-EX1, if you format, your camera settings and PP if you have any will be gone. Instead, he recommends that you delete all clips instead of format the card. Unless you have those settings saved in your computer or other places or you don't planned to keep them.

Not exactly. The PP's will stay in the camera indefinitely.
If you save them to the card as a backup and format the card, the ones on the card will be lost, but not the ones in the camera.
You can save them to the card again after formatting if you need to back them up again.

So are you saying there is a camera storage and a card storage? How do I access the settings on the camera storage? I know that the camera has a place where it stores factory default settings but not sure if there is a place where we store our customized settings besides on the card.

The settings are stored in flash memory on the camera. By making the settings on the camera, you are storing them in camera memory. If you want to move them to another camera or archive them, you can copy them to the card.
I've just pulled both of the cards out of my camera and all of my picture profiles are still there.

Nice, to know ( I was thinking of something along that line). I'll have to watch the Vortex Mastering PMW-EX1 DVD again.
Thanks!
