View Full Version : Is the 2" viewfinder worth it?

Got a quote from AbelCine today for an HPX package and the sales rep said he felt that the 2" viewfinder wasn't really worth the extra $. He said that the HPX ships with the 1.5" viewfinder and it wasn't possible to substitute the 2", which sounds believable, so it would be an additional ~$3k for the 2" viewfinder. He said there was no increase in res, just a larger screen. Anyway, curious to know if anyone with first-hand experience has an opinion either way. Thanks!

Peter

No firsthand experience with the viewfinder but faced with the same problem we learned to rely on focus assist while on the shoulder, and the btlh80 field monitor when on the sticks. For the same price as the upgraded viewfinder you can get the SDI version of the super sweet monitor.

Wow! 3k for that 2" viewfinder? I guess if you're on the shoulder all day it may be worth considering, but I'm with Walnut in going for the LH80 for the same money.

the stock viewfinder does a good job. much better than the hvx. if you have the money defintely get the monitor. we got the lh80 and it is great. focus in red, waveform. much more bang for the buck compared to 1/2 inch bigger viewfinder.

Hey Peter, as you already know, I agree with the above - and that finder was only $2500 when I decided against it...

The stock finder is too little, but you get used to it immediately.. I do hope they introduce another finder for this camera soon.. It would be nice to have the option of a (larger) color finder for those of us who work fast and need to follow WB ... Plus, from years of using a film camera, I tend to make composition decisions based on color as well as objects.

It would be a sacrifice in resolution, I know, but I'd always have the stock finder in my case when needed.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I have decided to stick with the stock viewfinder after checking it out on Hunter's camera (thank you Hunter!), and considering everyone's feedback. Instead I'm going to get the 8" Panny LCD. Thanks again!
